They have those here, Thought about entering the handgun but I don't know if black powder is allowed. I don't have cowboy type revolver other than BP. My neighbor does it, he has two Ruger Vaqeros and a 30-30 wagon gun.

I use a shooting stick for my mid range hunting . Because of where I often have to take shots. Standing up is the only way to get above the brush. The reason I keep the bipod on my winter rifle is mostly added weight up front. I like having some weight up front. Helps settle things out.

Nothing wrong with using a stick or bipod, I do too. I was talking about those guys you see bragging about what a great shot they are and it's sittin in a cradle where the human factor is gone. most of those same guys tell you your rifle should do the same or it's junk. I know most of you guys have been on those sites before.nobody here does that I've seen. I never cared about putting em all in a dime, just need to hit what I was shootin at with reasonable accuracy.

I think you just need a new shooting table.
    Cmp is 600. I know they've added new league's but 1000?
You'd be surprised how easy it is to shoot steel at 1000 when properly equipped and prepared.
Most modern centerfire rifles can makes hits on man sized targets at 1000 yards.
In the sniper world of the internet 1000 is a mysterious standard. Most will never get to shoot it. In NY there is technically one range that stretches that far. And it's selectively and essentially closed to the public. So the other option is private land or a safe public place.

Prescision is a whole different ball of wax though.

Tactical rifle shooting is what I want to try.
Traveling to a different climate and elevation shooting different distances with angles... is "tactical rifle shooting" no time to punch into your cell phone app a scenario. Range it Dope it shoot it onto the next target.
Nor Cal Tactical Bolt Rifle Challenge within AccurateShooter.com
That puts shooters to the test. It waaas...becoming popular.

There is ELR, Which is for the elite. And big bucks.

My CVA Scout V2 45-70 came home with me today. I like that it came with a hammer extension and a scope mount from the factory. No iron sights which I am OK with. And an extractor so it won't throw spent brass over my shoulder.

Personally I am reasonable proficient with just about anything you care to toss at me. This comes from many many years of competition. Lets just say that I can get the job done out to 1000 yrds. Never had a chance to be at range longer than that. It's a real hoot to shoot 1000 yards with something like a 45/70 ( your choice of propellant) There is enough time to watch your shot hit your target through a spotting scope ( does take a little practice though) if you did your home work of course, trajectory is like a mortar round. Or be down in the pits pulling targets at that range, you hear the pr0jectile hit the target ( well hopefully) and a bit later the boom from the rifle. National match course is 200, 300, 600 yards - first up is 20 rounds plus 2 sighters at 200 yards offhand next is sitting at 200 yards rapid fire 2 strings of 10 ea and you start standing up - you get 60 seconds for each string, then back to 300 yards 2 strings 10 ea on your belly rapid fire again _ 70 seconds start standing up. Then back to 600 yards 20 round slow fire on your belly . slings shooting jacket and iron sights, nothing else except spotting scope. Shot this with a bolt gun for quite awhile and then with a Garand, always wanted a m14 but never had the green stamps at that time. My scores were about the same with either. Some of the older gents than i at the time were pure poetry in motion or lack there of with a bolt gun rapid fire. I was fortunate enough to have mentors that were some of best in the nation. AR platform was just starting out back then.

I have a buddy that has a Marlin lever gun and he said the same thing! He did tell me the 325 grain Leverevolution was more accurate in his rifle than the 250 grain Leverevolution. I have not found any 250 grainers on the gun shop shelves but I will have to try em both and see if that is the case in my rifle.

Farthest I've shot was 500 with a 223. Prone and slung. No coat. Not in competition.

If you can hold 4 moa or better groups at 100, hits to 500 are fairly simple if you know your dope, breathe right, squeeze right, and can call wind. I remember thinking that I'd want some serious glass if I backed up any farther.

Shooting 1000 is way above my pay grade. Lol

I have a CVA Hunter in 44. It’s simple, accurate and has nice features. I was tempted to go 45-70 but ended up with the 44 so the boys and my wife would be more likely to shoot it.

My wife's cousin is deep into super long range shooting. He goes out to 1700+ pretty regularly (river bottoms go for miles and miles here). I don't even want to know how much he has in his 6.0 Creedmore rifle, but I'm guessing $20k plus with the rifle, glass, and can.

20 k is a bit high. 10 k is not uncommon. But then some guys have a whole herd of top tier optics. Meaning 3-6k$ each.
If he has the most expensive Leupold Mark 8 . then just that scope alone is pushing 8 grand.
If a guy is careful he can build a complete rifle that is stupid accurate for less than 6 k $ all up.

We shot to 1200 2 weeks ago. Made 9 hits out of 25. Savage with Razor Gen 2. I have about $3k in the setup. I don't chase little groups unless I'm working a load up and I prefer to use 400 yards on steel. I have never shot out of a sled. The gun doesn't recoil naturally to me.

$20K is probably an exaggeration, but he has very expensive taste and a deep wallet so I'm not sure anything would surprise me.

Reading this thread reminds me of a joke:
Long range shooting is like golf, but for men.

I only shoot 300 yards at longest any more. The way I see it, if Allah jahammal hekeehm Mohammahud from ISIS comes down my street, my longest shot is 260yrds! I just want to hit center mass! ;)
My 8mm Mauser will be just like the old AT&T commercial, it will reach out and touch someone... :D:whistle: If I gotta break out the M1A chambered at 30-06, then it really wont be fair...

A golf course is a waste of a perfectly good rifle range.
I love golf, but not as much as chootin!
