.22 doesn't carry enough energy especially after a ricochet to do much or go very far. They are for whatever reason a ricochet prone round in my experience. When I shoot steel they are always dropping on me or bouncing off me the car or whirling off into the distance. To go a mile, you would have to point the barrel in the air some 45° over the horizon to get Max distance. You can use a ballistic calculator to see how far it would go if shot from 6ft off the ground with a level barrel...my guess would be about 250- 300 yards before splashdown. I would think a heavier slower moving project for the use in question is on the right track. Bigger bore lower velocity.
I agree but your just using it for a hear and there shooting not so bad. And it's even cheaper if you reload because you can fire form them out of .223 brass, which are cheap and plentiful. That is if you like to mess around with reloading and fire forming.
I shoot this stuff, it is not bad on price and have shot thousands of it through mine without a hitch. not one misfire from it. it's good stuff. They sell out pretty quick. Ventura Tactical 300 AAC Blackout 147gr FMJ Ammo - 250 Rounds
Here's my Weatherby Vanguard S2, chambered in 257 Wby magnum. Wearing a Burris 3-9 scope, and using the cheap (relative term!) ammo. Not sure why the point of impact shifted from last year, different lot #?, but a nice 3 shot group, scope adjust, and she's bang on for where I need it to be for longer range testing.
Here's my gals Savage Axis? muddy girl camo scheme, chambered in 243 Winchester. Wearing the scope it came with, severely budget Bushnell 3-9 I was shooting 80 grain instead of her normal 100 grain loads, but it printed pretty close to her deer ammo. Three clicks left and it would be perfect.
Keep us updated on that trigger swap! I’ve got a 700 in 30/06 I’d love to do a trigger on, but it’s wwwwaaaayyyy back on an unlit back burner since I rarely fire it
I'll get it in one of these next few days. Been beautiful weather so outside work has been taking my time and priority. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
I got the Timney trigger in the Remington 700 tonight and it went smoothly. It was an actual drop in fit! Comes off of safety smoother and quieter and what a sweet trigger pull. I'm happy with it. I have a Timney in my AR15 also.....i like em and they have a lifetime warranty. You don't even need a receipt or be the original purchaser. Now to find something to shoot. I actually have no idea as I don't have a gauge. Looks like it's supposed to be at 3- 3 1/2 lbs from the factory and I didn't change anything. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
Nice rig. I love stainless on a gun, just something about the color, contrast and the resistance to the elements. Nice shot! Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
My Winchester model 70 classic sporter (pre-64 style action) in a .300 Weatherby mag, the Boss system, Leupold VX-3 6.5 X 20 power with a Bell and Carlson stock. It's my long ranger but this day I happened to be hunting a thicket.
Ordered a new gun last week. Happier than a three peckered billy goat! It is a CVA Scout V2 in 45-70. A single shot break action. Have a 2 x 7 Leupold scope in the gun safe waiting for a home. Dealer said it might be in late this week. It is made in Spain and has a crisp 3# trigger with zero creep unlike some made in USA lawyer proof triggers. I think it will make a nice tree stand gun. My shots are always less than 75 yards in my woods.
I have looked at those CVA's. Look like a good rig, brother has a CVA muzzleloader and it shoots well. Let us know about that muzzle device and if it's loud. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
If those folks want a centerfire rifle. And they don't have one yet. The 6.5 Creedmoor is a perfect cartridge to start with . Its a superb round for up to moose size animals . Is very easy on the recoil. And just generally easy shooting ! And it's a very good killer . I've been hunting predators and caribou with mine for 4 years or so and it produces nothing but 1 shot kills when I do my part. Mostly bang flops out to 373 yards to date.
I think 6.5 Creedmoor is the fastest growing round right now. You don't have to spend big bucks to get a good 6.5 rifle either.
