After reading this entire thread I've got a fairly simple question. Is it safe to assume that an 026 is worth $250 with a 16" bar and chain. Here's the ad:
    http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/grd/4896381559.html
Looks like a riveted tag version and the plastic all looks clean. Aftermarket felling spikes have been added it appears. What do you think? I'd scrape up the cash for another good saw to ad to the stable and it seems like a solid investment really.

If in good shape yes. Could be aftermarket plastic as well to clean it up??

Careful posting a link to a saw you want there are :vulture:around the net.

I figured if there's someone watching this thread that wants it that bad they can go grab it before me. Thanks for the tips and warning though. I was a bit leery but life's too short to worry that much.

I am no expert on this stuff. These guys here buy them with the fuel that was in the saw when sold new and original chain not even sharpened once and still sharp for like $25.

I normally get saws that are fried.

These were both badly burnt up.....

Both of those saws were given to me.

Take your time and ask around.......find a cool project saw. You'll really appreciate it when you get to cut with it.

Maybe I should just play with one of the saws I have in my "off" season ie this summer? Seems like an old 044 or 036 have a fair bit of potential as well?

Sam, I have found that you can spend more on a saw than you could ever hope to sell it for. I traded a stack of cut, split, seasoned wood for an 026. It's a nice light saw, but it had been sitting for years. I drained the fuel and frog water out of the tank and had it running fairly easily. I played with the carb for a week, then gave in and bought a replacement. Things add up in a hurry even on a saw you get for free.

Duane is right.......parts add up fast.

I'm sorta spoiled......I have parts for nearly every saw you can think of. If I need something I don't have I get good prices, or trade for parts.

    Food for thought....

This ain't AS, that's why I hang out here a lot and rarely over there! Here's my Mastermind Work Saws 2-saw plan (MS461 and MS261CM).
These two do the majority of my work, but I have to say, my stock MS361 is a great back-up saw/1-saw plan. Some day it may get the MMWS treatment???

P.S. This picts is with 20" bars on each. FWIW, I usually run the following: 261=16". 361=20" and 461=24 or 32"

That's about as good as any 3 saw plan I have seen. With a 361 in the middle of thr 261 and 461?? Hard to beat!! :dex:

This is one of mine. Might look good with a sticker from MMWS? Randy's saws are made to be used, and I like using this one

I will make an appointment when the time comes. It is a hot rod without anything but a hollowed out shell for a muffler. I left the screen and outlet alone. It pulls the 3/8 better than my 028's :beerbbq:
