Finally got off my lazy rear and worked on splitting a few hours. This is stuff that's been sitting in my backyard close to two years. Still have a little cutting and splitting to finish. Of course, then there is the stupid stacking.

I have been thinking that it is about time that I told you all how I stumbled across the Fire wood hoarders club.

12 months ago I picked up a new tandem trailer to haul firewood, I took it home and parked it in the only spot left in my shed (where I usually keep my firewood).

I started thinking about where I was going to keep my firewood.

So I'm at work, looking at a stack of IBC's and I thought I wonder would that work for firewood storage, I take out my trusty iPhone and Google firewood & IBC and what do I find, FWH Club.

I loitered for a while before I got around to joining. Any way 12 months on and these are my new portable wood sheds.

The best thing is that now during the summer the wood is well away from the house and sheds for bushfire (forrest fire) safety and when I want it I just pick one up with the old tractor and drive it in to the shed and park.[IMG]
Thanks for the great forum and all the info guys!

That first pic is super cool. Care if I use it on the wood porn Facebook page?

Hey guys. First time poster from PA. Just picked up a truckbed full of rounds (cut myself the other day) and thought I'd post. In the 8ft rack in the photo, the bottom is red oak, pin oak on top. And this new pickup should be white oak (I'm not an expert).

I started off with a 4ft tube rack (what was I thinking), then bought an 8ft with top cover...now, I'm probably going to start using pallets and tarp for top cover. The kicker is - I can't burn wood yet. Moved into this new house in April, had a chimney inspection and they found a few issues. Saving up some coin to get a liner and wood burning stove put in. I split by hand - kinda bought too many axes already. Fiskers X27, Fiskers Iso-Core 8lb Maul and the Husqvarna S2800 was just ordered.

    Happy New Year!

Hey there BetterCallMaul, welcome to FHC!

Nice pics and intro story- getting your chimley situated is a great first step:yes: and you've figured out postin pics, so awesome job there!

Now, without an upclose and highly focused shot of the rings, some of them big rounds got a heartwood color I haven't associated with White Oak.... almost has a poplar tone in them centers......
A closeup pic of the end grain will seal the deal!
Great to have ya on board, sir!:handshake:

    Thanks for the welcome!

Now that I'm looking at pics of poplar rounds on google images, I think you might be right. I can take some closer photos. Poplar is still a hardwood and good for burning?

I'll tell ya the one member who loves poplar as much as anyone else might love any wood other than poplar.... the one and only, fellow Pennsylvanian to you- mike bayerl. He loves the stuff! I believe as many wood choices are out there, each has its place, and to each his own burn needs... split it all, buckaroo:axe::axe::axe::axe::stacke::stacke::stacke:
