I think BL will outlast your burning years before rotting away.

    o_O

Well, you don't have to worry about it sitting on the ground! I found some buried in the dirt along my east property line from who knows when. Bark was gone but the wood was hard as a rock. Buried treasure it was. :)

Yes 2 trunks. My firewood partner Lefty took down some smaller cedar trees for his neighbor and that's how he found out about it. Saved the guy a bunch of money having the tree service drop it in the pile shown and we came and grabbed. Win win all around and don't see much BL around here. I'm guessing 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 cord when done. Plus I have close to 2 cord of 4 + year old BL that needs split. The Tommy Lift makes easy work of loading.:dex:

That was me 3 winters ago. And yes...cutting and right into the stove produces little heat. The fire is impossible to stay lit until the stove is very warm and you can rebuild the fire on the large bed of coals. Definitely don't want to let that fire burn down or it's right back to square one.

Long time lurker here, first post. A little bit about me. My wife and I bought an old farmhouse that was built around the turn of the century, our first winter in the house we spent over 6k on heating oil (winter 2012) to heat around 3000 sq feet. Needless to say the following summer I decided I was going to replace the old coal boiler with a new "wood/coal" boiler. After my first winter burning wood I was addicted. I did however realize I was wasting A lot of wood with the boiler. So I added an englander 30 to my main floor with hopes that I could heat my house with wood more Efficiently, and to my suprise it heats my house very well down to around 15 or so and then the oil kicks on. Anyway enough about that I know everyone loves pics, so here is my latest scrounge I'm going to be at this location for a while. My buddy's grandpa had 150acres select cut this winter and he told me he didn't care if I was there for 2 yrs he just wants all the tops and dead ash trees gone! Done deal I said. This is the first 20 or so loads. And many more to go. image.jpg image.jpg
