Ok, here are some pictures. I realize I used a finger instead of a "thumb" nail. (I was trying to shade the camera.) The piles of logs while taking up around 45 cords of space will realistically yield around 20 cords cut & split. Since several of the piles are piled vs stacked, I will stick to my estimate of over 35 cords seasoned & ready to burn vs the close to 50 cords the measurements would give.

I didn't realize how much of the sides of the photos would be cropped when being up loaded. In the future I will have to remember to leave more on the sides. But over all they do show lots of wood. :)

What can you tell us about that awesome looking splitter, Oliver1655? Is that from a manufacturer or home built?

Splitter is homemade. It has gone through 4 phases of building & I still have a couple of things I want different. I will probably leave this on alone, it works good as it is, and build a refined model. I have learned a lot about splitters from several builds shown on various forums. I am putting together a handout on different types of wood splitters, design, part selection, & design considerations. I plan to include lots of posted pictures of homemade splitters found in these forums as examples/idea stimulators.

Jack the Knife: I've borrowed your ticker, I hope you don't mind.

With winter coming, I think with the ticker I can mark my progress forward (and backward as I burn up these cords).

I've chosen the turtle to reflect my slow pace.

Don't mind at all, Paul. I have found it to be very handy. I won't be marking any progress back until spring, I don't see how I would be able to accurately measure.

I'm bringing wood into my garage a cord at a time, and storing it in face cord sized racks. So I'll be able to measure the face cords as they go up in flames.
With any luck, I'll be able to match my rate of spitting with my rate of burning, and keep it steady or even get ahead.

Trying to set up a system:
    1. Next day's wood in a rack next to the stove for final, extra drying.
    2. A few days of wood in the basement to allow for coming up to room temp and a little extra drying.
    3. One cord at all times in the garage to stay out of the rain and snow.
    4. Replacing wood from the pile outside into the garage as it's used up
    5. Spitting from the pile in the yard, stacking on the racks for 3 years from now

Trying to go back to daily splitting and hauling for 30 minutes or so as my form of exercise.

Dam. I can't keep up with this thread. Not enough time for all if them. Now I am going to have to go back and read some of this thread I have missed. There should be a function in the forum where you can sit in front of your fire with your feet up, push the certain thread you want and just listen to it. Everyone's own voice in it? So you could here each one of the "special" characters we are? :popcorn:Or a mechanical Scotty voice reading all of them? :zip:

Mine could be read by Sir Patrick Stewart. That would be classy.

It's in one called picking up my craigslist score, or something. I just took my muscle relaxers so I'm a bit foggy right about now.

When I click on your pictures, they open up and show he whole picture. When you download them, look for the option to show them whole as opposed to thumb. That way they open as full pictures. The default is as a thumb.

The best part is that I got the lady's husband to lift all the heavy stuff so I didn't set my back off again.

New to the site. I would say I am a cord hoarder at the moment. Working my way up the tree. ( pun intended)
Thanks for having me as I look forward to getting some pics up soon ( of the hoard of course ).
