My 11 year old son collected 10 gallons of sap last week and we cooked it down to 1 quart of syrup in a turkey fryer today. Should be running good this week and we'll do it again next weekend.
Helped the inlaws finish up tapping their 2200 taps on vacuum today. It won’t run for awhile here yet but they’re ready. I enjoy doing my 120 on bags a lot more
Still too cold up our way..but warming up this week..fingers crossed !! It's a beautiful day anyhow !
I’m tapping today. This week looks like it should be pretty perfect with daytime temps up near or above 40 and down to the mid 20s at night.
Sap was running good yesterday. My son got about 4 gallons on 10 taps. Looks like the rest of the week is warming up so we'll see if it slows down.
Just got 200 gallons of sap collected. Running fast ! Love the block of ice floating at the top ! This one was overflowing .
Gathered 100 gallon yesterday afternoon , boiled it off this morning. Gathered 160 gallon late afternoon today , will fire up early tomorrow morning. Sap was still running while I was gathering. What a nice day we had here , sunshine and 53 degrees. By morning it might be 25 degrees and snowing.
Dang we got 14 gallons today on same setup. Cooking some down now....will have to finish it tomorrow.
Got up here about 5am to get the RO going....im always in awe when I get into the woods this early. So crisp and quiet....theres nothing better ! Took old Red out for a spin to check the property out..what a good girl ! It's almost 40 years old...and runs better than I do lol ! Got about 200 sap sacks with 1/4 to half bags..but the taps are froze up again. Should make for some good boiling and collecting today.
Had to take the RO home and put it on its portable stand so it can go home and not freeze up. I guess permanently mounted won't work here just yet.
What's the listed volume on those collection bags? I've not seen them before this thread. Thanks for sharing!
Not sure what the listed volume is...when they are full...we get a little better than 4 gallons out of them.
4 gallons is the average claimed capacity. 3-3.5 is about all they want for easy (read: not poring it down your pants and looking like you peed them) handling.
