It smokes like no other, smoke fills the valley. the wood is split extra large , thrown on the ground and covered in snow at this time . then loaded into a 1970s stove and set extra low to last all night. and they've been doing it like that forever.

I'm burning an old 1978 Fisher air tight, (so they say)  BUT, I'm currently burning hard woods 5 and 6 years old. As many of us here do, (and have been doing) We're all on the 3+ year plan. You can't even see a puff of smoke when my old girl is burning. I did install a baffle so I get somewhat of a secondary burn. This stove has been in here since about 1981. I have no plan to change it, nor the desire too. It is a Heat Monster! 8 years ago I pulled it out of the house, stripped it down bare, repainted and all new fire brick. I wouldn't swap this stove for a new stove. The old stoves were fine "IF" you burn't them correctly, many have the mindset that; "They'll burn anything"... And the old Fisher advertisements even said they will burn your trash! :eek:o_O... Yup! That's why some do that and give us wood burners a bad name! :headbang: Here's a thought if you want to, give them our web site, and maybe encourage them to the 3 year plan, give them the education they need. Though, they may couldn't care less either

I tried talking to talk to them but since I was a transplant here, I couldn't possibly be right, after all that's how their daddy did it back in the day. fresh cut green wood on the dirt and no covering.
I had an older stove at my old home it was a 1980s Tremont and had secondary burn tubes. I loved that stove and burned it for 30 years . I left it in place when I moved as it was very heavy and moving it seemed overwhelming to be moving by myself.

I just completed a woodshed addition and will jump from a 3 year to 5 year inventory of mixed hardwoods .
If any standing members are in central Va and need wood I have all you want for free , you cut you haul.
