After being gone for a week, it felt good to be back at it yesterday. I came home to find 3 more loads of oak logs dropped off yesterday and I was able to get about half of it cut yesterday.
Thats a lot of cutting. I average six weeks with two gallons of mix. Rare that a cutting session is more than two tank fulls.
Yeah honestly I’m pretty beat. Between having to pick up pig feed tomorrow and then get my son from a sleepover about 45 minutes away before we host a neighborhood party tomorrow at 2, I think I’m going to take the day off from firewood.
I bet you are beat, especially cutting that much in the heat that we both have. It was nasty hot Monday and Tuesday.
We have run the splitter in 90°+ weather here and 2 things are necessary... a pop up canopy and a box fan.
I've occasionally set up a canopy to work on a vehicle out in the sun...I'd rather work in "real" shade, not the artificial shade of the canopy...you can still feel radiant heat from the canopy...better than nothing though. Just did it last weekend to adjust valves on my Honda Odyssey (get with the times Honda! ) which is a pretty major job as maintenance procedures go. I had a box fan going, but it was pretty muggy so it still wasn't all that pleasant. I dunno how you guys can motivate yourselves to firewood in this weather!
That was several years ago when trying to get on the 3 year plan... age, physicalities, and other things have since precluded artificial shade and air movement devices from being used for summer firewood making... we simply don’t do firewood in the summer anymore.
