Had my follow up appointment with the surgeon today. He said all looks great and I’m free to do as I please as long as I’m smart about it. So after that I went right to work of course. Fired up my big saw and got working on some 24”-30 oak logs. After that I cut some more maple for the mixed pile and one more dreaded gum log. Once I was satisfied with the amount of rounds I made, I cleaned things up and moved some logs with the tractor. It was hot to say for sure but it feels good to work. Screen shot of weather was taken as I finished up.
Jrider, It's going to be 100F on Saturday just NW of you at my place. I will be on the lake from 3AM-8AM. Are you going to work that day? Are you bound by any noise ordinances? Not being able to fire up a small gas engine before 8AM in my township really annoys me in the summer when it gets light so early.
As far as I know, I plan on working Saturday morning till I have enough. We are zoned farm at my moms so I can start whenever I want. There are 6 homeowners that create an island with Wharton State forest and my mom is the smallest landowner at 8 acres.
Here’s a satellite view of those properties and a zoomed in one showing my wood and log piles. Can’t quite figure out when it’s from but the blue truck is my extended cab f250 with an 8’ bed.
I put in 4 hours today. Was hoping for more but the dew point was in the upper 70’s and every article of clothing was clinging to my skin as if I had just gotten out of the pool. My legs went weak, not in a dangerous way, just like they said ok please stop now. Haha.
WOW! I was like that a couple weeks back when splitting....sweat wise. I was in shade too. Its brutal with the dewpoint for sure. I came out of the air conditioned grocery store last night and my glasses fogged up! Nice to see you back in action. Im sure it feels good on your part even though it was just a few hours.
Glad you listened to your legs...I don't get the dew point on my weather station at home, it just gives me the heat index. Glad you're back cutting, just be careful, it will sneak up on you.
So this is the progress on the second oak pile. I like to work my windrows from one end to the other but sometimes it’s not practical depending on how wood comes into the property. I have a 30’ gap between both ends and I like to set goals for myself while working on firewood so my mind is set on finishing this pile up by the first of August. The newest section of this pile measures 45’ and we got started on that right around the first of July. The last picture is my “shorts” pile.
I had some company early this morning and they couldn’t care less about me running the splitter. I was looking for the nice 7 pointer running around here but it was just theses gals today.
