My first time gun shopping I went to a range that rentals. I rented 2 different glock .45's and a subcompact 1911. All glocks to me feel like Im holding a brick while someone hits it with a sledgehammer when I pull the trigger. I think I had a 30 & 36? I later tried a 19 with the same feel. I then shot a Kimber 1911, and fell in love with how it felt in my hand. It was just perfect IMO and I ended up buying a S&W 3" 1911.
Is STI still the only manufacturer of the 2011? How are they in terms of quality and reliability? Worth the price?
There's nothing sexy about a Glock. That's for sure. They work, and that's why they are popular. High Point's work too, just are a little uglier. But at least they are a lot less $.
There are various manufacturers for a double stack 1911 style. STI is a high end manufacturer. Chambers, Stacco, Dan Wesson, Wilson, Rock Island among others. Just make sure you can source mags. I don’t believe there is a standard 2011 mag and they may be unique to the manufacturer.
Glocks are great, I just don't want one. Firearms fall into the category where I would actually spend a more for better quality. This is coming from a guy wearing a 3 dollar shirt, and 16 dollar pants.
I think today is going to be a spew some lead day. I got three Folgers full of .38Special reloads. My goal is to empty one of them at my metal spinners soon as the sun warms things up. ain’t life grand
I was over at ammoseek and I see a lot of different 9mm rounds. 9x18, 9x19, 9×26... what is considered standard for 9? Are there similar standards for .45 acp?
I guess my real question isn't what are the standard sizes. I am trying to understand the limits of what length is safe to shoot in any given firearm. Is there a best practice or will I know because the firearm explodes...? 45 GAP looks like a hot round, I like the way you party Casper.
Exactly. 9mm x19 is luger, also known as 9mm parabellum. That's what most people refer to when talking 9mm handgun ammo. There's a 9x18 and I believe that's a tarkov. Other 9mm chamberings probably as well. These are different than the luger/ parabellum standard 9mm.
Match the marking on the chamber to the ammo you you buy. There are NO options. The problem is that the 9mm you consider as common has been called different things internationally and even domestically. Its commonly known as 9x19, 9mm luger, and 9mm parabellum..... all the same thing. Means nothing about the legnth, weight, case shape.......etc.
Here's a fun article to read. It goes into the 9mm name game too. 45 Auto vs. 45 ACP: What's the Difference?
