The base gasket on mine was eliminated with hondabond in its place from previous owner not sure what the squish was at
I am going to pressure and vac test to make sure I'm not missing something. I have cleaned cylinders with muratic acid and emory cloth but I don't think there is alot of transfer on this one. After looking at the ports on this saw and where the skirt locations are there doesn't appear to be much meat left for widening.
Side to side is normal. As long as it's just the connecting rod and not the entire crank. As for the Piston? Meteor is one of the only Aftermarkets that I would consider.
Meteor will be fine. Oem is about $100 and c/p kit is around $210. I would almost bet the cylinder bolt coming loose did it not the air filter. That's on the other side of the carb.
Your probably right, the piston looked ok through the exhaust port when the cylinder bolt came loose. Could have gradually got bad enough to notice with a little more run time. Everything was snug when I tore it down this time.
I'm with Mike on the bolt/gasket being the cause. Are you now using the metalized gasket? I torque to spec and check torque again after a couple of heat/cool cycles.
Do you have a link to find a meteor piston for this saw? I searched the web and am having no luck. I'm finding them for every saw known to man but not the 7900. I'm pretty sure I've seen them before.
I think I'm good on everything else, I'm gonna go ahead and get a new gasket on the way or go gasketless if the squish works out and new cylinder bolts as well. I appreciate all your help.
IME, It is hard to find a T-27 3/8 bit long enough to get to the jug bolts on those saws to get them torqued. However BMW car/motorcycle dealers sell one that is very high quality with 8 inches of reach.
Update. I have an aftermarket piston en-route to get this baby rolling again. Finding dolmar parts in stock seems to be getting harder or maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.
