I know guys that won't put walnut on the truck!! Their loss! I still have half a truckload of walnut I cut yesterday I need to finish unloading from my truck. (I split and stack as I unload, got sidetracked last evening by a buddy and cold frosties) The stuff I cut is always dead fall, usually with the bark off or coming off. Makes a good firewood. Usually grows straight which makes for good splitting. Seems to coal up into nice chunks that burn down to fine ash. That's been my take on walnut.
