My brother has a Smart car. What a piece of crap! He drives it to Ohio and back, full of stuff. It's reaching the end of life, and he wants to buy a new one. He better hurry, they are about to stop selling them in the US.
12 cu ft behind the two seats. Plus pockets here and there. Supposedly less with the new ones (fourtwo). We looked at one and really didn't like it much on the highway. Really nice city/errands car. Dunno about driving long distances in it. We ended up with a Fit. Which is a little nicer on the highway but still not the greatest. I don't like it in the snow. I was kinda spoiled with multiple wheel drive trains for the last two decades. Vehicle "stuck" in the garage due to snow takes some getting used to.
Should have loaded tighter yesterday. All that was left today were half a dozen skinnies. There's another hoarder out there, working my turf!
back in my childhood before carseats and every other rule that would have been full of wood with me stuffed on top
Nice little score of primo wood regardless Midwinter! I haven't been on here for 2 days because I was upstate NY, and no I wasn't in your area so don't be thinking it was me who took it.
My husband once got left behind at a lobster store, because the station wagon was so packed, nobody could see if he was in the car or not!
I stopped by my honey dump after work to see if any of that red oak was left. There was some left but then I realized I left my fiskers at home. So then I figured I’d better practice what I preach and bring home some pine rounds, both to mix in and to use some splits as rails for stacking on. The pine was much more difficult to split than I imagined; it was very spongy and absorbent. Think these will split a little better when they dry out?
Yeah, soft pine with all it's little knotty fasteners can be a real PIA! This is one of those times where having a hydraulic log splitter that completely drives all the way through the log is best.
I believe so. Knots can be funny though. Sometimes aiming right for them works to get a good split and sometimes splitting the distance between two is the better option. There's always the power option but splits can go flying when they pop. Not often but once to the head or through a window is once too many.
The dump as usual. Every now and then there's something worthwhile, I got some apple a week ago. This oak though was tucked way in the back, you had to be hunting to find it. And it was too big for Marcel, the 86 y.o. hoarder. Not surprised there's another dump picker, as expensive as a cord of wood runs around here.
I still go every day. It's a mile out of my way if I'm up and down the highway for shopping or whatever. I always have yard waste or bark, and I stopped using my trash hopper when my crazy neighbor started putting his overflow in mine. So when I fill a trash bag I just bring it to the dump. It's worth going, even if I only find something one time out of ten. And I find useable 2x4s, plastic pallets, milk crates, granite cutoffs, and other useful stuff. Typical price for a "seasoned" cord is $325.
