Some white oak at the dump this afternoon. I'm swimming in oak, and have been trying to get what I have split. But I couldn't just leave this load behind. This morning I answered a CL for some cherry, already bucked up. I was #2, but they said they had 4-6 more trees to take down, and was I interested. Yes please! I figured out where the cherry was, it's a church, and this afternoon the cherry was still there.
I got the email from the church people this morning to come get some wood. Boxelder, dead oak, and a little cherry cut up neatly, and a big red oak that fell over the winter. I took the crap wood, and cut as much of the oak as I felt competent enough to do. Three car loads, it was good exercise and great weather.
good looking oak! Midwinter to the rescue! Weather was nice and wish i had a chance to work on wood today. Do you put a log(s) on the passenger seat?
"I got the email from the church people this morning to come get some wood. Boxelder, dead oak, and a little cherry cut up neatly, and a big red oak..." *Nice job* Midwinter: You got your heat for close to nothin'....and your checks for free! [Dire Straits]
To catch up... yesterday I split up the boxelder I got from the church people. I put the little bit of southern catalpa on top. This will be a shoulder season stack, I hope it dries out over the summer. This morning I split some sugar maple that I got at the dump on Monday. I stacked it on top of some red maple, in between the metal shed and a second- story dog crate. The metal shed needs support on both sides because it is bowing out. Oh well, it was cheap. No wood at the dump today, but I did pick up this cool old soda crate. And, the neighbors a few doors down had three trees taken out, a big pine and two maples. Someone told me the cost was 5K. I think they kept the maple trunks, I could be wrong. The pine went away on the log truck. I didn't ask for any wood, I've got my hands full and I have to babysit tomorrow. It was a gorgeous day to be outside!
Some post there Molly! Nice to see the yard greening up! The Box Elder and Catalpa will definitely be ready for next fall if stored covered. If I were you I might screw some vertical 2" x 4"s to the walls of that green wood shelter next time its empty (either on inside or out, nothing fancy and hopefully you can even scrounge them). Thats a nice condition soda crate! Looks pretty new, but I remember Cott soda growing up in New York with their slogan "it's Cott to be good!" I liked their black cherry flavor I've got my hands full too, especially being this is the end of the school year. It always feels like its winding down at this time and it is, but they dump all this stuff on you like last minute evaluations and the like, then of course its all the art shows that I need to hang and attend the ceremonies. No wood for now, but soon I will be back at it.
I went after some mulberry on Craigslist 10 miles away. I was the first one there, had the place to myself. What's left: ...and a whole lotta brush. 1st load... I suppose I should go back for more.
Funny, I kept ignoring this thread assuming it was about hoarding cars. My trunk is my go to for wood hoarding.
Second load... What's left.... plus the long pile in the previous pic. I was offered the stump, but my saw isn't big enough, and the chain link behind it complicates things. I might go back Wednesday and get the rest, tomorrow will be a washout with the rain.
