A fellow I got a lot of locust from a few years back, Ed, knocked on my door. He told me his neighbor across the street had a black locust blow down during the thunderstorm last Thursday. I connected with the neighbor, Mo, and he said I could take it. He had already cut all the brush off it.
I was a little nervous because I had never cut a trunk off a rootball before. IMG_20210705_31948.jpg
I thought I'd cut a notch in the top, but it went over when it wanted to. IMG_20210705_4598.jpg IMG_20210705_18501.jpg
    All cut up! IMG_20210705_14126.jpg
First car load, it took two more. IMG_20210705_26387.jpg

I did the big ones, by tipping them up onto a round on the pavement, then rolling them into the car. Later, Mo came out and helped. There are some smaller limbs that he trimmed that I'll be going back for.

I ran it on the big end of the locust until it ran out of gas, then I finished up with the 180. Its hard for me to pull start the 250 when it's cold, so I have my husband start it & warm it up. Then I can start it fine.

Yes, right across the street from the first locust score. The homeowner remembered me and expedited the deal, very nice of him.

Did it give you a start when the rootball fell backwards? Or were you prepared for it? Good job done.

Great job done safely, Molly. I'm proud of you. You accepted the challenge, conquered your fear of a new situation and got'ter done. I was nervous myself, after seeing how far off the ground and crooked the trunk was, I've seen some unexpected rolls from trunks like that...:salute:...you are the Queen...:tip:

I had just finished cutting a notch in the top, and I tapped it with my hand to see if the wood would come out. Then it went! It was a surprise even though I knew it would happen, does that make sense?
