I need to get me some cutoffs and pallet wood.. and maybe a saws-all. It is kind of depressing being out of dry wood for this season.

Nope, plenty of wood... just none of the dry variety. The pandemic had us at home during the day all winter and boosted our “burn rate.”

Pardon the tongue in cheek response, as I am appreciative for the idea to check out the lumber shop that is not 5min away. I have heard you can grab your fill of cut-offs there. Is that a similar place that you got your trunk load?

Looks like it was splitting time this morning.

The ground was soft/thawed enough to reposition a rack.

    From here....

    To there
    IMG_20210321_093550000.jpg

3 log dolly loads and I'm done for today.
    IMG_20210321_095733871.jpg

As you can see, the sun was warming things up.

I like to widen the ground contact, to avoid too much sinkage.

He remaining rounds. The stack of to the left, is my stack of shame. Cut too long. :headbang:

Just cut a cookie or two off to make them the perfect length. Problem solved.

I turn my saw lengthwise to the log and eyeball it from there. My measuring was rushed.

I collect pallets from work and disassemble them, I use what's suitable to build with and the rest I take away for firewood

You should start a "pallet hoarders thread" if there isnt already. With the different suppliers i do business with its always fun to check out the pallet pile. Found a mahogany one once. Dismantled and made an Adirondack chair. Most of the time i prefer usable lumber.

A truck driver told us he once had a pallet, some guy was drooling over and he offered it to the guy. The guy couldn't believe it, "I can have it???!!!!". Truck driver was only going to throw it with the rest of the pile back at the yard, he thought someone had too much time and built this super nice pallet. It used screws instead of nails and the wood was.....teak.

A semi proper car hoarding three from me. Only semi-proper. Because my chainsaw is still out on loan along with the files to sharpen my new one. At least I can say I didn’t completely miss out on the red oak from around the corner. They even put a big bow on it for me.

It could have fit, but they were heavy uncut and hard to split while so long.

I hear ya and was only pulling your leg. Fresh cut green oak rounds are not one of my favorites to lift.
Hoard on and work safe my friend!
