The result people not driving their cars around so much? At least that is the case for me with no commute for the pandemic. Don’t get me started on the woes of virtual kindergarten. I know they are trying their best.

I have swung by the honey dump a few times, but nothing there these days.

I think I found a use for the elm! I was just searching for logs to cut up to sell as rounds for the mud kitchen business, when I remembered the elm. Looks like I will be able to make a few of them into seats for kids.

I would think elm would make a great chopping block? I keep my eye out for a hunk of sycamore too, on the theory: the harder to split, well... the harder to split. I’m sure rot resistance would be another factor that I am not considering.

I havent used a chopping block in the past 2-3 years. My back doesnt think swinging an axe is as fun as I used to think it was. These days, the only time I split wood by hand is when I am trying to get it to manageable sizes to load into the truck and bring home. This elm will do just fine for selling at $10 a round.

A stump cut off works well for a chopping block too. Flared end nice and stable on the ground.

That is true.. the complicated grains tend to keep it together longer as well.

The elm will be perfect for seats. It's very rot-resistant. Once the bark comes off, it's pretty looking too.
