That's brutal heat. Its hard to be excited about wood gathering. But there's a two-stemmed black locust with orange tape around it, just down the street from me. I'll be doing frequent drive-bys! Maybe I should tack up a sign with my phone number.
Asplundh has vanished around here. As have the craigslist scores this weekend since I wont have the little one tomorrow. F that Murphy guy!
Good news is, the abutter is an ice cream stand, so they won't want the wood. Bad news is there's no place for them to leave it, so I'll have to be on the spot.
Adding this to my travel route Decided to go for a short hike with my wife and a neighbor this morning. No farwood
Filled the Jeep with some black locust. Going back to get more tomorrow. Good thing nobody around here scrounged for wood in the summer.
Just make sure you don’t include, “I’ll take your wood...” or “you’re wood looks great, I’ll stuff it in my boot.....” or “I love free, easy wood....”
Hey, it all burns! I have a friend who can only bring home "Designer Wood". He only uses wood for mood type scenarios or winter parties. Before it goes into his small wood area it must be debarked and free of debris. Every piece must aspire to be a perfect quarter split. His wife makes him go over every split with a foxtail broom before it comes into the house so not a whit of nasty sawdust comes in with it. My Wif runs a clean house and I practice a modicum of cleanliness when bringing in the wood but seriously? Carefully brush and sweep every piece off? "Clean enough to be healthy, dirty enough to be happy! That's the way I roll!
91° and muggy today, but there was hoarding to be done. First load was some birch, second load was a locust limb, looks more like honey rather than black. It will be a dark day when the town can afford a chipper.
I finished splitting and stacking my oak from the dump, yay! I found it 5/30, started splitting it 7/4, and today was done with it. Unfortunately this is the most sun it gets. But it was cut 3 years ago, so it's somewhere between green and dry, and the bark is off it, so it should be ready in a couple few years. It is almost exactly a cord. Now on to the locust.
