Maybe wait until it checks a bit. Good luck!

I love the way holly smells. I stand a split up a few feet from the stove and it gives off almost a sweet Vanilla type smell. My wife said it was an over-powering smell, so maybe go easy on it.

Never burned any. I'm guessing more of a shoulder season wood?

If you check the chart is is higher btu than white oak, and takes half as long to dry.

I struck out on a Craigslist oak score, but made up for it at the dump. Yellow birch. I got there before the loader pushed it into the pile. IMG_20201009_39250.jpg IMG_20201009_19222.jpg

It should be good pickings for a little while, we had a wind event on Tuesday.

Regarding the wind event, no big deal here. Just a few dead branches/twigs blew down. My kindling!

Bringing up the rear, some catalpa chunks, red oak with the sapwood rotted off, and 3 dry pine rounds for my grandson to practice on with the X25. Hoping for a bonanza tomorrow! IMG_20201009_59962.jpg

No, it was a blow down in SW Nashua. All that was left was a couple knotty chunks.

I’m helping a friend take down a few red oaks around his camp, two leaning over it. This is the third load with several more to go. It’s over an hour away but I like oak and he’s a good friend.

Two great reasons! You'll have the oak, and the memories of time spent with your friend.

Apple from the dump today... IMG_20201014_13470.jpg
It was a big one, I had to leave some chunks I couldn't lift.
Got it set up to cut, some other day. Never start anything after 3P! IMG_20201014_23190.jpg

It never ceases to amaze me what ends up at the dump. I mean really, here in New England you've got a tree to take down and you don't know ANYBODY that heats with wood??? No neighbors, family, coworkers... And apple to boot? Nobody they knew had a smoker? Enough ranting from me, that's a great score on your behalf :) I have over half a cord of apple I'm really looking forward to burning in 2021-2022.

I picked up a load of old oak, not the best, but still good. Craigslist, and they had friendly goats. IMG_20201015_48359.jpg IMG_20201015_56475.jpg I had to drive down a trail to get to it, and now my car is leaking something underneath. It seemed like water. I left it at the shop. Probably should have stayed off that trail.

    Heartwood still looks solid.

Too bad about kicking something up, causing a leak.
