It is! I snapped a bolt on it once, splitting in the driveway (snow everywhere else), and hit the asphalt. I had to take it to a machine shop to get it out, but other than that it was an easy fix.
    Splitting axe or maul??

    Happy Thanksgiving hoarders.

Had to make a store run, and saw this lonely piece sitting beside the road.

It's now mingling with new friends.

I had better luck splitting the black birch, now that it's frozen. I could at least get the quarters into eighths without cutting the outside. The stringy bits shattered a bit, being frozen. IMG_20191130_50535.jpg IMG_20191130_28325.jpg IMG_20191130_14324.jpg

Im surprised birch gave you that much trouble splitting. Cant say ive ever had any tough birch before. Not a very common scrounge for me though. Glad it was easier when frozen. Ive got a bunch of red oak to split if you're in the area!

2nd load of four for the day.. should put me at around a cord or locust for the score.

Taking the day “off” if you couldn’t tell.

Thats right, you NHites got snowed in. Will it be tough on you not being able to make firewood? Did you tarp some rounds?
Dusting here with rain/snow mix. I have SOME wood down here if you're jonesing to split some. Ill supply the hot cocoa!

It will be very rough. Today isn't bad because I got my exercise shoveling. I have this rack of maple from WeldrDave's to split... IMG_20191202_25605.jpg
And a rack of birch, poplar, and apple... IMG_20191202_32804.jpg
And all this skinny maple, also from Dave's... IMG_20191202_40565.jpg
but when I've split all that, I'll be out of work. But what really eats at me is not bringing any new wood home. Last winter I managed to hoard some oak in the snow, I hope something like that comes along.

I think this will make 8 trunk fulls.

I didn’t go all out as not worth stressing the bearings for tulip, but I can stack it with the pine/silver/cedar for next year.

Nothing wrong with getting more than you need.

To paraphrase gun owners - "I have more wood than I need, but not nearly as much as I want"
