No I don't have the original ad photo, but you can see in the second picture the empty space in between the scrappy branches and the big logs was mounded with nice 12 inch diameter rounds of dry maple. Yeah I'm not a morning person either and in my haste I even forgot to chug down some coffee, but in this area minutes count unless the wood isn't cut to convenient size rounds or as in this case too heavy for the average person to bother. Funny I forgot to mention that while I was loading my car a middle eastern guy with a small pick up truck and his wife in the cab pulled up and surveyed what was left which was only some crotch wood and the branches. I felt bad, but what are you going to do? They were 5 minutes too late and that's how it is here. In his heavy accent he asked if I was taking the smaller branches and I said no and then he decided it also wasn't worth it and drove off. Not sure if they were after the missing medium sized rounds that I also missed, but these were salt of the earth people and though smaller in stature I'm sure they would have been able to take the big ones especially with the easier to load pick-up. I just made one trip, the rest of the wood was only good for fire pits, perfect for a local neighbor to snatch up the small score.
I happened upon an Asplundh cutting 15 minutes from here last December. Went the next day to grab some and they were still cutting down the road. I asked what time they leave and after 3 i was good to go. REAL nice ash and red oak...some primo stuff. Well the next day im there at 3 as they just leave. In 5 minutes two more guys pull up at the score. Plenty to go around. One guy noodling big oaks to load. I befriended the other guy and helped him load smaller limbs into his mid size PU. 20* out and he was wearing shorts! I was bucking the nice logs. Ya snooze ya lose. Shouldve told them it was pignut hickory!

Some as early as April, and some as late as yesterday. This was that extended collection from the neighbor’s. That I misidentified as red and then silver maple.
you may be able to burn some late Winter. Do you have a moisture meter? If so check in February. Dont know how temps are different in MD vs. CT
Yes Norway maple and very solid wood with no rot. buZZsaw BRAD your story reminds me of a supermarket here where at 5:30pm every day the sushi is dropped to half price and if you get there at 6opm all you will find is maybe a few California rolls or an avocado roll. It's not the best sushi, but for the price its perfect yet I often get there even at 5:45 and surprised that the selection has already been reduced so quickly! The other day I happened to be there at 5:15 and was like "hey thats right, sushi goes on sale soon!" So I roll my cart over to the rolls (pun intended) and wouldn't you know it, the buzzards were already circling the area waiting to pounce. They were spying the case on their phones I imagine to report home to see what they want from whats available. I'm sure they are there everyday like a routine and this explains why sushi selection is never good when I get there. As you said "you snooze you lose." That group of people need a sushi hoarding site haha!
I think you got the best parts! Granted it is not dry yet, but there are a lot of splits in those rounds.
Yeah Molly, I'm totally happy with my score and figure each of the large logs is going to be a days worth of wood. Also I did scope out some other side of the road wood during the drive that I may visit at some other point. That said I still have some other more local spots with earmarked wood I can hit up first.
I did get a meter and was checking some of the big slots that the neighbor broke up into carrying size pieces. A smaller chunk on the top row was down to 20% a smaller chunk deeper in the stack was at 30%. Rounds that I hadn’t broken up were still at 40%. Those were from just a couple months ago, so I would think the splits from April are about ready to go. They are mostly in the back row behind some tulip poplar. So I’ll likely work my way around to it later into the season.
Nice Molly. Good to see you can still get something from your dump. My dump has been totally useless the last few months. Cant even get into the space anymore, just a 15 ft tall mountain of mulch bags. I don't get it, where are they putting the wood??
I don't know, at my dump any big wood goes to the back of the dump, somewhere the public is not allowed. I've seen trucks with big logs bypass the brush dump, and drive back where the commercial haulers go. Anything at the brush dump is from homeowners or small potato landscapers. I should get a drone to see what's back there!

Get a big one with a hoist to snag a log or split while you are at it! How far are you from Tinker Rd. in Nashua Midwinter? I was helping with a move yesterday and was in town. My friends BIL moving to Florida. When we finished i checked out the backyard. Nice mound of oak rounds neatly tarped. I checked them out then asked what they were doing with the wood. Turns out it is part of the sale. Almost had a score for you. Dont worry, i wasnt trying to infringe on your territory!!!

Left home about 8am from CT. Had to meet up with his SIL in Grafton, MA. Drove to Brookline, NH to get 20' Uhaul, then onto Nashua. 3-4 hours of loading and packing. Got stuck in traffic jam on 495 and took long route. Made it back to storage unit around dusk and left there about 8pm. Long day. Ill be in Manchester, NH next Friday and Saturday. Oct 3-4
