I will follow up with a pic to show the actual pattern. Right now we are snow covered. This gives me the chance to break out the Cabelas Seclusion Winter 3D camo. I have had deer downwind at 15 yards while on the I am in the open and on the ground, and they could not find me. Smell me, yep. Look right through me, yep. Today I was standing in a hedgerow with my climber and a cordless sawzall contemplating which tree I wanted to get into for the next couple days. I am onto a good buck, but the locations I have available aren't working out. This particular spot is where I have jumped a doe or two many a time, bedded in the hedgerow. While looking at the tree I heard a noise and turned to find a group of deer making their way through the cut corn just upwind of me. One last doe decided to lay back and turned up the row I was in. I am just standing there, orange hat, saw in hand. No gun. She comes into the hedgerow and meanders up toward me starting 25 yards away. The first time she stopped, I had gotten the grunt call out of my pocket and gave it a couple good toots. I did not want her to come any closer and spoil my spot for later. I figured she would think this grunting was not good and just sneak off. Well she started to do that, and then returned walking even closer. The last grunt I made while she was pawing away the snow making her bed. This was at about 25 feet away. She looked for the "buck" many times, but always looked right through me. She then bedded down. Not really part of my plans at this point. I am wearing a leafy mask to keep my face warm. Now I decide the cat must me let out of the bag since I have no intention of waiting out her nap. I use a loud speaking voice and tell her she better get moving. This brings a different look from her face. The third time I tell her this, she gets up and moves out and across the field. Even at that distance, this doe which is not a yearling, could not find me, 6' 1" without the hat, standing right near her. She never focused on me, merely looked through me. I just love this camo!
I wear a dark red woolrich coat with a pair of camo wool pants, I have yet to be spotted if I stay still. The buck I killed this year came down wind and didn't even notice me.
I agree that seclusion snow camo is some nice stuff. They spotted me comin a mile away the other afternoon while i was walking to my stand (just had my normal camo on). Doesn't help i was falling through the ice in the swamp. They might've heard me
I have a solid white suit I put over anything Im wearing if hunting on the ground in snow. I had deer walk past me at 10 yards in the snow in an open field while it was snowing and not know I was there.
I've looked at that pattern before and it seemed pretty nice. I'm in the market for something new as the old surplus "German Military Snow Cammo" suit I bought from the Sportsman's Guide years ago mysteriously seems to be shrinking smaller and smaller. Getting real tight around the middle now.......................
All clothes shrink after 5-10 years, depending on fabric. When you are younger, you outgrow the stuff before this is experienced. Another common cause of clothes shrinkage is marriage. Odd how that happens!
