My trees must be really dirty. 4 times? I touch up the chain after every couple trees......it's Oak, so maybe that has something to do with it.
This firewood'n thing sure ain't for lazy sissies......I enjoy just about everything about it. Where's the fun in turning up the thermostat and paying the man.
Green birch cuts fast & easy, Spruce is dirty wood, glacier silt in the wood & bark, it dulls wood way faster than birch. Maybe it's the LPX, What chain are you using?
Then you gotta add eating the veggies and then, uh, disposing of the remains. This could add a few steps. My mind is racing at a snail's pace right now at the mere thought.
I think I use LPX. For the price, Oregon is good stuff. No way I can go more than a few hours without swapping chains.
No, I leave on top, keeps the weeds down. Fresh ashes, the slugs don't like it. Dry like now, the wind blows a lot of it away. Good soil in the soil boxes, I add 4" of compost to the raised beds every year
I never counted my steps but it seems to me like a lot of handling! I'm always trying to cut down on my handling. It gets to the point where I've handled some pieces so much I feel bad throwing it in the fire....
I like to look at it as good excersize. Makes me appreciate it all the more. But I do agree, by the time it's seasoned and ready for use, I'm almost too attached to it to let it in the stove!!
I guess that's why we are called hoarders cuz, I would kinda like to just save it all, instead of burnin it up
Some signs that you may have become too emotionally attached to your firewood for Scotty Overkill and Deer Meadow Farm ; 1) You name each split. 2) You celebrate the anniversary of the day you split it with cake and candles. 3) You play taps and cry when you place each one in the stove. 4) You submit an obituary for your burnt firewood to the local newspaper. 5) You don't throw out the ashes....you keep them in a small wooden box on the mantel.
Looks good Dave! When I came back from the bush, I like to park the trailer and splitter at the stack then remove one round at a time, split and stack. Saves a little bit of handling and a lot of bending .
When I do a pic heavy post/posts i open multiple tabs in the browser. Get them all set up, then click post, wait the stupid 30 seconds, click post..... tepeat...
I was just getting ready to go out and finish a tree I've been processing, until you knocked the wind outta my sails !
