Yep. They work for many. I fully understand why some people buy them.

The thing that gets me is when the guy with the RL uses his vehicle to regularly tow a boat that is 5000 lbs and they then proceed to fit 5 people in the cab and go boating and think that's ok. It's not. That vehicle was overloaded the second that boat was hooked up, then the driver overloaded it more and all the other 4 people in the vehicle along with the rest of the crap in the boat and such. I wouldn't even use any midsize truck for that, even if it was still under capacity. That's asking for a problem.

I agree. You have to use common sense. According to the manual, you have to deduct the weight of any people or cargo above a driver and front passenger. You can't have 1000 pounds of people in the truck and still pull the 5000. With any vehicle you should have a 20% safety cushion between your max towing and your trailer weight. Our camper is 2300 dry. We are well under the max and the 20% with what we bring with us. It's only her and I in the truck.

We were looking at Toyota Highlanders too. Supposedly you don't need to deduct passengers from its 5000# towing capacity. I didn’t look far enough onto it because I knew what we would be pulling and I like an open bed for the bicycles or hauling lumber, gas cans, saws ect.

Even the driver and front passenger are needing to be deducted from capacity.

This idiot RL owner I was chatting with online thought that towing a 5000 lb 24ft Yamaha jet boat was ok. He also didn't believe that a "buffer" like we are talking about was anything that should be attempted by anyone with a brain. This idiot is in Madison WI, so there's a good chance I'll see this clown on the road. His dad lives near me and has a newer RL as well. His dad was probably the idiot parking in 2 spots at the dog park that I took a picture of and posted on FHC a while back.

There's idiots all over, regardless of what they are driving.

I look forward to meeting you at Denny's.

When we were looking at vehicles to pull our camper we looked at, obviously, the Ridgeline, Highlander, Tacoma, 4runner and F150. Once we drove them all, researched them ect, we chose the Ridgeline this time. That said, we have three Honda's now and we can definitely see their quality has slipped from our 2009 to 2016 to this 2020. We will most likely be looking to buy a Toyota next time, even if the Ridgeline proves perfectly reliable.

    The manual clearly states otherwise.

That's very odd. No other manufacturers do it that way. But at least they specify that the two front seaters are 300 lbs total

I know people that only would buy Honda's. That's family stopped buying Honda's in the early 2000's due to slipping quality. It's only gotten worse

I wasn't talking out my azz or making it up. I own the vehicle and read the manual. :handshake:

Yes unfortunately. The president of honda that took over in 2017 stated this in a press conference. He basically said honda has lost their way and he plans on getting them back to the quality leader they once were. Not sure how long thats going to take, but I'm not waiting to find out. Lol
