Taquminin (sp) Falls north west of Paridice. We always went the second week of March. Ridge and his 340Z cat. Back trail to the falls off the east west road. Trail to Pine Stump Junction from Paridice. Ridge and his 340 Z Cat. 27" of fresh powder on the back trail to the falls. Back trail to the falls after 27" of fresh powder. We never made it the 6 miles to the falls that day. got tired of digging stuck sleds out. East West road and back trail junction. Stuck bad. Al
Got the little man out for a ride in the backyard this weekend....before we lost all our snow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Al, Those are the snowmobiles I remember. Thanks for posting those pictures, it was like a walk back in time.
Between Kalkaska Mi and Cadilac Mi some place, lots of good rideing in the area and not to bad on week days even today. 200 miles of bad road second ever trip to Hulbert in the UP which ended up being a second week of March vacation every year till 1982. 27 inches of fresh powder and trails were bad trying to get around on. Al
Another day on the trail to Pine stump Junction. Our friend Ridge, and his 340 Z cat, His Name was Al too so we called him Ridge. Got it for rideing the ridge of snow drifts and many times being buryed in a cave in. The sun even came out. We always stayed at the Hulbert Hotel good warm wood heat, great breakfasts and supper. Central location, rode to the Soo, St Iginase, Trout Lake, Nubinway, Paridice, Deer Lodge, Pine Stump Junction, Grand Maria and Munising. Took Cousin Norm with us one year with his 300 skid doo Olimpic, He did keep up too. I know it was 1977 because Rob (brother) had his 78 Polaris 340 TX and my last year with the Merc Sno Twister Norm did a lot of praying we didn't kill him keeping up. Norm climbing a hill on th eway to trout lake. OH the night before we drank the bar dry. Really did the delivwery guy had a emegerncy so he didn't make the normal delivery so they kept running out of things for us to drink. Can't ever remember a next day like that one. On the trail to Newberry. We learned to Avoid that town. Fellows we met at the hotel told us they had parked out side the city limits and walked to get some thing to eat. When they came back a cop was just sitting there. When they fired up the sleds and went around the city limit sign in a U he pulled them over and gave them a ticket for riding in the city limits. I have heard they have since stoped that crap so snowmobiles will stay in motels & eat in resturants and bars. At Taqualmin (sp) falls, we always rode a back trail the hotel owner kept groomed then and entered the falls from the private side. I have been told that now days it is part of the Michigan trail system. Al
Ahhhh! I love it. Gives me a headache thinking about it Sweet pics from a great era in sledding. Real snow! Wow a Trail Twister and a early IFS TXL (I believe?) in the same group of pics. Classics to me.
It is a 1974 Sno Twister, started life as a 400 D, Which ment it had a 400CC engine and could rase in the USSA D class. In 1976 Mecury came out with an exchange program where you could swap the 400 CC engine for a 340 or a 440. I choose the 340CC. The trail twister had blue hi lights and was a 440 fan cooled sled. The Indy is a 1981 the second year they made them 340 liquid cooled, sweet sled, still own it. Al
Two years ago I cleaned house on my vintage stuff. Sold 3 TXL's. '79 and 2 '81's. Also sent a 300 Yammy Enticer down the road. Fun toys. I'll probably pick up another project sled someday.
No picures up on this computer...but I got a '02 Polaris 600 XC Edge. Older dino sled...but still a blast. And no payment! The best part haha.
I put nearly 100 miles on this morning. Trails were good at the cabin, even after the 40° weather yesterday. But it set up overnight. Only a high of 33 today.
Awesome pics!! I mean this in a nice way, It's cool being able to see what all the old guys talk about before all the grooming, modern trails suspension or even helmates. The "sport" surely isn't what it is to be.
You are absolutely correct, it is a 98. It’s actually a sled that I picked up for my older son to learn on, it’s tough to beat the older fan cooled sled for a beginner sled. Older used sleds are the only way I can afford to make snowmobiling a family sport. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
