Indeed it was. They guy that built my friends Yamaha SRX asphalt sled lived out that way, and actually had put on the bracket race that picture was taken at. The builder/promoter pointed out this one woman and told me she was gonna win it. I put her azz on the trailer first round running almost right on the number......then proceeded to red light in the second. I used to be FAR to agressive on the tree.
Had this for eleven years now, a '92. I only take it around our field a few times during the winter then back in the garage it goes. Over 30,000 km on it. I also used to own a '69 ski-doo, 338 Yamaha and then a 440 Yamaha.
Put a couple hundred miles on this weekend, felt great to get out on local trails after the past two years of crap riding!!
We ride 600s. The Axys is my dad's sled...he doesn't know if he likes it better than his '15 switchback, which is all the way up in the trailer. But he's been riding the axys more. I'd choose the axys over the switchback because I like short tracks. Before my Indy I had an '11 IQ shift with the longer track (137"?) And everyone told me going to the short Indy track (121") would suck. WRONG...i love riding that Indy, it's effortless to maneuver and it's fast.
Our trails are still holding up for now, and we are supposed to get another 12-15" of snow tonight into tomorrow...just in time for the weekend. Of course Saturday is calling for a high of 2....
That's braptastic! I try to avoid weekend riding or go off the beaten path on the weekends. Too many Yahoo's can't keep right.
I hear ya there, but our local trails typically aren't that busy on weekends when its COLD. Only the die hards I guess. And since I work for my Dad, the only way we ride during the week is if we both take work off, and that typically ends up in a disaster with the other guys running our shop. If we could leave right from home and hop onto the trails though it'd be a different story, but we have to trailer out every time. Long story short, we are weekend warriors, just not by choice. I do try to avoid Tug Hill on the weekends though for reasons you just mentioned, as well as terrible trail conditions. Trailering 2 hours from home to ride 4ft high moguls isn't my idea of fun.
Don't ride like we used to in the 70's and 80's. Kare has a 2000 Polaris 500 Classic, I got to likeing it a lot so got my self a year end clearance 2001 500 Classic. Love those heated running boards and handle grips. All my snowmobileing pictures are held hostage by Photo bucket except this one I had loaded up on Shutterfly. Problem with shutterfly is many forums won't allow their up load. We used to do all our rideing in Michigans UP or near Cadillac Mi where the family farm is. Then my daughter finished collage, married and moved to Minnesota. Michigan trail permint then was $25.00, Minnesotas Non resident year long trail permint was $16.00. More trails in Minnesota near towns and villages so easy to find places to eat and fuel up. Is also we think safer rideing, as they do stop people in Minnesota who appear to be drunk. 1971 Mercury Rocket, my first sled and still have it. 1974 Mercury Sno Twister, was a 400cc but did the up grade in 1976 to a 340cc, still own it 1981 Polaris 340XTL indy still own it Kares sleds 1985 Polaris trail indy her wedding presant still own it. 2000 Polaris 500 classic . Wow a sled thread! Them thar things are addictive to say the least! Still have couple. Polaris Edge 600 with a motor I built from a ProX 440 bottom, 600 ves cyl's, very shaved head and twin pipes. Fun sled. One of many Polaris sleds I built small blocks for. I really liked the 660 motor combo. Talk about a rocking setup. Also have a bone stock '05 Doo rev 600 with right at 9000 miles. Also a nice sled. To many sleds and to much money out the window over the years. It was great fun however. Must be our 3rd year without significant snow to ride/groom. Pretty much done with it I hate to say. Be safe guys. No reason for me to be here other than dumb luck. We rode waaaaay stupid fast for years and took many chances. I shudder thinking about that now.
Last great day of riding was yesterday. Lots of people out enjoying the sun and high of 20 degrees. Today the local clubs are starting to close trails after mid 30s temps and rising temps coming later this week. Amazing how fast sled traffic eats up the snow. Lake Ontario with ice breaks as far as you can see:
SE of Cadillac Michigan. Hulbert Hotel UP Mi. Near Paridice Mi Near Pine Stump Junction. Please find me a faster sled with slid rails LOL. Out side of Paridice Mi, dam last night has caught up to me. Near Kalkaska Mi. 100 Miles of bad roads on way to Hulbert our first time. East of Nubinway Mi. where Lake Mi comes close to the road. Al
