Only side affect for me so far has been the appearance of a “Bible bump”. On the wrist of my dominant hand. I think came from lifting and moving heavy rounds to split.
I don’t mess with manual splitting, so creating shoulder issues . Would be a real problem to be physically unable to do the css that we all enjoy.

The shot can do wonders. Only caveat is it can weaken your immune system for awhile. My holistic doc was raving mad when I told her I got one :) It did the job tho.
At this point in history it’s up to you if you want to take the chance of weakening your immune system.

I didn’t know it weakens the immune system. I heard that it can actually weaken the tendon and that is why you have to wait a while before getting another one

What are complications or side effects of cortisone shots?
Cortisone can weaken the immune system. For this reason, many doctors limit injections to once every 3 months for a specific joint, and 6 times a year for the entire body.

Cortisone can also raise blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. Doctors monitor blood sugar levels to make sure they are stable before delivering a cortisone injection. Cortisone may also (more rarely) cause osteoporosis (low bone density), fluid retention (swelling of the limbs and congestion in the lungs), high blood pressure, and alterations in mood.

Patients who take other corticosteroid medication such as prednisone pills or inhaled steroids should get fewer injections or lower doses if possible to minimize the above risks.

Interesting- I found going heavier (Granfors maul) was easier on my body. I use a fiskars for some jobs like kindling and I do like it , but only if I’m going to be splitting for a short while. It seems like the lighter options slow down more suddenly on hitting the wood and that hurts me more than lifting the heavier maul if I’m going at it for a half hour.
