Depending on how high pellets got, I may get out my Buskirk pelletizer and pelletize round bales this summer.

This is the first of six pallets bought at the fire sale last April. These were $160/ton which is especially nice considering we like the MWPs a lot! They got moved into the cellar yesterday. Don't usually bring pellets inside this late in the year, they are typically all brought inside in September or early October. I was surprised to see how much condensation had formed on the bags, due to the colder weather. Usually see some condensation, but not this much. An ice cube had formed in one spot.

With the cold weather on its way I decided to get a "reserve" ton just to have on hand to get us past Christmas.
Called around to the local Big Box stores (Tractor Supply, Home Depots) and none of them had any pellets in stock.
I live on Cape Cod and usually get my pellets from Home Depot in Wareham, Ma (about 25 mins away). The garden department manager just laughed when I asked him for stock.
Finally found some at the Home Depot in Plymouth, Ma (about 35 mins away). Their website said they had 4 tons in stock.
We drove up and grabbed a ton from them. The sales lady there said they were the last 4 Tons in the Home Depot system in Southeast Mass. Not sure if true.
Picked up Green Supreme Allegheny Hardwood . $308.00 a Ton.
These seem loose in the bags almost like they are not full.
The volume in the bag seems less than other Green Supreme I have used.
Of the Green Supreme's I have tried I like the Appalachian the best. Really don't like the Northeast bags.

Anyway, That brings me up to 2-1/2 tons in house so far

1/2 Ton Still River (Crap in a bag)
    1 Ton Green Supreme Allegheny
    1 Ton Green Supreme Appalachian

Should be good to go until late January.
I would grab more now as I find them but I am out of room in the basement.
I have new Kitchen cabinets down there taking up all the floor space until I get around to gutting the Kitchen.
    Hopefully supply gets better.
Still can't believe I'm paying over $300 a ton for Box Store pellets.

Desperation? If that's all they have in stock. I have a small stash of fir that I got on sale. I'd never pay a $100 plus premium for fir.

I love the matra and they burn almost as hot as the firs. I had a buddy tell me about Java flame and I looked into them and had my pellet guy look into them and he has a truckload coming. Can’t wait to try those. They supposedly burn at 11,200btu and burn cleaner than firs. So I told him I would buy a ton at 400 to try but he can’t get them till the middle/end of December.

I read that. I’m curious how they burn. My buddy that originally told me about them said there was literally no ash. So I’m curious and can’t wait to try them

PD has a teaser on their website "Watch for wood pellet availability week of 1/9/2023". If they really do get some, it would be the first time the website has shown any pellets available to buy since September/October. Appears they may be getting some "Home Choice" pellets (private label Lacretes) ivanhoe had first reported spotting at Home Depot in Canada back in September 2021.

Lots of pellets around here. In fact, Farm and fleet is running a sale on them at $260 a ton, limit 3 ton, but then propane is staying around $1.99 per gallon delivered. One thing about my units and that is, they roast anything, just have to stay up on cleaning. Keep it 60 on the shop All winter. My supplier still owes me 400 gallons on pre buy.

Same here, But only at the boxstores. Some of our pellet house dealers have had no stock for quite a while now.

I would think with the very mild weather, that pellet demand had dropped way off. I'm running my stove right now as it's a bit cool and cloudy, but once sun is out, it warms the house enough I don't need to run furnace or stove till dark.

I don't expect to go through all 4 tons. I'd be surprised if I go beyond 2.

When the temps are real mild I switch to the heatpump.

Oil price has dropped way off compared to the start of the season. I was quoted $5.92/gallon in November. It dipped to $4.29 in December.

Same here, any time the temps are 35-40-ish or higher, we switch to ductless heat pump. Now that eversource has doubled the electric supply rate, we will need to select a different supplier to make this continue to be a cost effective option.
