We used to burn corn cobs in the cooking stove. Used to also soak a few in kerosene and used for lighting fire in the cooking stove. Got it hot sooner.
make use of what you got i burned half a feed truck load of them two winters ago. it kept the shed from turning into a block of ice.
When we were house hunting a few years ago, we got pretty close on a nice old place with a great wood stove the previous owners used exclusively to heat the place. During the home inspection, the inspector and I went to check the condition of the stove and found a bunch of burned nail polish bottles inside! Other items on the inspection (namely the bad mix of concrete used on the crumbling foundation) caused us to bow out, but if we had gone forward, there was no way I was going to fire that thing without going through the stove and flue with a fine toothed comb.
