    Tax credits have nothing to do with whether you qualify for the standard or itemized deductions.

    The real money is in geothermal or the big ticket solar equipment. Windows, furnaces, wood stoves, doors, and insulation qualify. Energy efficient appliances do not.

    I got a credit for windows and insulation a few years ago. I this k it was 10% back those years I got back.

    That one got brought back last minute in 2014, retroactive for all of 2014. It ended in 2013, and until late December, it wasn't available in 14. They just didn't bring back energy efficient appliances into it.

    I put 1400 dollars in new Windows in the house this year. Lucky me I can claim them.
