Haven't had the chance to hit the range yet. It's very similar in size to the Ruger. The Ruger has better contours for less snag, and a more "solid" feel. The safety on the Taurus has a much better feel. The front strap on the trigger is better on the Ruger- for "Feel". (pretty sloped back on the Taurus depending on your grip). The "Double strike" trigger on the Taurus is a big plus, something you have to get used to, but the LC9s has a better feel and pull. Without shooting it, the Taurus has a bit better grip, my hand sits a bit more into the frame. This is good. I should be able to shoot this weekend, give a side-by-side comparison.
Fresh from the range, 50 rnds. through each Ruger was less "sharp" in recoil this time out. Function was 100% as usual. I do like the trigger pull on this, very consistent. The Taurus- 3 FTF, 3 slide lock failures on last round, no ejection issues. Recoil was fine, very comparable to the Ruger if a tad less. Accuracy was decent but low/left. The trigger will take some getting used to. I'll have to smooth that thing up a bit. So, until I can work out a few bugs, the Taurus is not at the point of a carry gun.
We removed all the excess oil, waxed the entire gun and manually operated the slide over 1000 times at home before taking the 709 back to the range, had no further slide issues.
Did you encounter any issues on the first range outing? Mine could be as simple as a rough follower on a magazine. I know my grip was altered a bit, I might have just limp-wristed it on the last shot a few times. It's much too soon for me to draw any conclusions. I do know the trigger safety needs to be smoothed up, it had a noticeable catch.
I tave a little Taurus 380 carry gun. and the only FTE I had were from weak handle ads I put through it. factory ammo, including carry ammo never had an issue.
