It’s kinda in lower ground. There’s a creek about a half mile to the north that runs through wet meadows and swampyness ( is that a word?). Anyways, several years back there were a couple consecutive wet years and the water level was way up, drowned them.
Another 3 targets down. Property owner offered to use of their pay loader to help push the trees over. Cat 928F, more reach, more weight, and more power. They are still resisting being pushed over. Not enough roots rotted off yet. Three trees seem to be about my physical limit for a day. 3 saws got on the bus but only 2 got in the game. The jonsered didn’t want to start. Been a while since I ran it and if I remember correctly it was acting up some then. 357 and 562 played the whole game.
Back at it today. No helper. I been wanting to get this one down but it’s leaning the wrong way. Tried to push it over with their loader last time, still too solid. Today I figured I would try to wedge the way I wanted it to go. I got lucky because there was a good breeze that was perfect direction to assist. It went well and exactly where I wanted it but I was starting to worry because I used all the length of the only 2 wedges I had. Only took down 2 today. This one and a quite a bit smaller one that I shoved down with the skid steer. 266 did the falling and some bucking. 257 did everything else. Didn’t feel like I made very good progress today as there wasn’t a very big load in the dump truck. But I think I put maybe 11 logs in the log pile. Cutting them to 12ft
Nice to see the 266 in action. I can relate as sometimes I feel like I didn't make good progress at a cut/score. Slow and steady does win the race though.
I got this text from the property owner today! “Just an FYI a tree fell down on the west side of the lane out there so I will leave it there because it will be easier to cut up there” I was thinking about trying to get out there this weekend to load up the logs I have racked up, and bring my machine back to town for the winter. Then the rest will have to keep till the spring. There’s still a LOT of wood standing out there.
Busy week for you. Glad for you the property owners are mellow. Still a great score. Keep on getting.
I made it out today and took my young helper with me. Took care of the tree that the owner said blew down. And took one side of a co-dominate down and processed it. Had the stepson hauling log loads to town with my dump trailer. Got all the logs to town in 3 good loads. Helper and I got a pretty fair jag on the dump truck. So all the desirable wood that I cut has made its way to my place. Tomorrow I will go out and bring my skid steer to town for the winter. So this will most likely be it on this score until very early spring. In all likelihood this will probably be the last load of firewood hauled with this dump truck. It’s getting pretty sketchy on the road, even by my standards! I have purchased another that will hopefully be a little bit of an upgrade. (I bought it sight unseen on an online auction)
Finally got around to doing something productive in the firewood world. Did a little bucking on the logs I brought home. 592 and 357 got the call up today
Great to see someone be able to make firewood that has dry ground. Some nice rounds there. Are you going back for more logs?
We got around 2” of snow on Saturday. But got into the low 50s on Sunday (yesterday). Oh yes, I’ll definitely be going back once it starts getting to be spring. I’m probably not quite halfway done. We’ve had some pretty good winds, so hopefully a couple more have come down on their own.
