    Good question. I am using the Stihl Synthetic 2 stroke and mid grade gasoline.

    I have seen old fuel foul a plug, makes kind of a dark brown glaze.

    I have also seen multiple plugs fail right out of the box.

    .020 I think but wait on second opinion. They usually are right out of box.

    Well when I was tinkering with that MS170 I got for free - never checked the gap, and I noticed it did take ~6pulls from dead cold to start.
    online "answers" show .025-.030, just from my visual recollection looked a bit bigger than that(probably .050) and I noticed spark tracking down the bend

    .50 is def way out. .020 is spec.
