Dang, a quick cursory glance at that stump cut could make a fellah think Ash tree!
I wonder how far up it continues with solid wood like that...and how it would split?
Never seen "palm" on any BTU charts...

I have done it. Felling against a Huge lean. Worked out great.

I have spent a lot of time trying to get brittle
Eucalyptus trees to hinge. Mostly unsuccessfully just as I was told by pros. Put a rope(s) in it - against the way you Don’t want it to go.

I tried high back cuts and then the long hinge. The problem is that it is complicated to cut and a tiny mis cut ruins it.

Blue I nicked the back of the hinge on the low side. Broke early. The grain was also spiral and running backwards there.

Yellow I nicked the top of the hinge on the front side. Broke high, forward grain held longer. Pulled the tree to that side and missed the lay.

I am beginning to think pulling fibers vs. trying to bend them would be better.

I have heard palm gets hard as nails when hit by lightning.

Now that I see the picture, I’m surprised there hasn’t been a bid on it. If the concern is breaking the concrete walkway, you could put a layer of sandbags over that…
