Thanks Backwoods. Haven't been on the site much lately. But hunting season is officially over and cutting season has begun! Did some cutting over the weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. Looking forward to the next GTG.
Looking forward to seeing you, as well, Dennis. As for this hunting season, it was quite disappointing. Deer numbers seem to be down in my area. However, inconsiderate and selfish hunter numbers seem to be on the rise! Did you have any luck?
Did a mercy killing this fall. No, he was not the one I wanted but I told my wife if I got a chance I'd take this one as he was suffering a lot. I have several videos of him showing just how difficult it was for him to get around and, of course, he could not breed because he could not keep up with a doe. He was definitely on the down hill slide body wise too but the meat was still good.
That's a fine looking buck. Reminds me of a 3-legged doe that used to hang around our old place. She couldn't walk very well. But when it was time to run, she could run quite well, and even keep pace with the herd. She was missing a front leg, and we watched her for two years. Amazing animals they are, they have my respect.
For sure missing a front leg is not as bad as losing a hind leg. Still, I've seen some with part of the hind leg missing that did not do too bad. But this guy was really hurting a lot as you can tell by watching the video and also by seeing how he normally holds the leg quite high. Yes, they have my respect too.
