That is beautiful maple for the bedside table! I really like what you and your wife did on that "server. The color of the pulls, although bold works well with the paint chosen and plays well with the wood top. I really like redoing pieces that have seen better days (found on side of road or at the dump swap shop) or was bought as unfinished furniture. I'm not much of a builder but if it can be stripped/sanded down then stained and polyurethaned I can do a pretty good job. Not nearly as good as a lot of people who frequent this forum, but well enough that I'm happy to display the finished product in my home. I can find a bit of zen in working with wood refinishing - although I am naturally an impatient person so couldn't do it for a living. Oh, and if someone doesn't tell me what kind of wood it is, I have no clue
Sorry I've been offline A LOT lately. You guys mean a lot to me I should get online more. Been working some long hours and trying to spend what time I have with the wife. I am also a lover of Pallet building. Yours are very well done indeed! My current project plans are for the house. I am going to start building the living room furniture soon. The tables will be reclaimed oak pallets that I found. Very large and heavy slats almost 3/4" thick! You have inspired me to get moving again
Haa that's exactly where it resides next to my side of the bed Had it downstairs to put drinks on next to the couch but it migrated upstairs to serve as a bedside table. Thanks for your kind replies, the server came out well and is a good seller in the craft shows dont think I have a before picture. Would love to see some more pictures of what people are doing with reclaimed wood , fun stuff . I am now thinking just have not had time of taking some of the dunnage they use for structual steel (solid oak mostly some maple) they are 3"x4" and I am ripping them in half to build a farmers table. Just don't have time currently but that is my next personal project aside from helping the wife and sister with their show projects. Lets see some pictures of what you have built Bogieb
Beautiful wood working. The wood really talks. Those things should last as long as you want and then some.
Worded wrong Skeet graded below saw logs , pallet grade been kicked around stressed ,used, weathered, heck can call it a number of things but distressed was probably not the word . My wife and sister have all the re-purpose lingo I kind of pay half attention *nodding* yes dear ,absolutely babe all the while heads usually working on something work related. unfortunately I do have a few sticks of Spalted Maple true 1" X 6"just have not figured out to do with them. For those that don't know wood its the second board from the right .
"Distressed" applies to anything that gives the wood either the aged look, or the beat up look. One can distress a new 2 x (4) with some hammer blows, beat with old chain, torched with a propane/MAPP torch, etc. Whatever gives the wood an aged "patina." Pallet wood most times comes "ready-distressed" but new pallets often need a little persuading, if that look is desired in the final product..... My 2 ¢.
Awesome man thanks Eric ! I will look like I am really paying attention now "Well Babe I think that could use a little more distressing" Look at me Captain Re-purpose !
Sorry, I wasn't very clear - I am not a builder. The only "building" I do is put up sheetrock to replace sheetrock I have torn out. Here are a couple of pictures of an old dining room table - before and after. And an unfinished 3 drawer base cabinet that I stained and polyeurathaned
This is the best piece I ever did. It was an unfinished linen closet that I custom mixed the stain color to match some old bedroom furniture. Did this one a long time ago - probably 2003-2005 somewhere around there. Some of those pieces of trim beside it are old pieces I stripped and stained and will be put back in place some day.
I love wood working I build a lot in my woodshop but this is hands down my favorite build. My wife wanted a hall tree and I don't usually use plywood for high end stuff. This was B grade pine ply but it turned out fantastic! You guys have beautiful pieces here! True talent indeed This is one hobby I will never stop loving!
Nice work Pallet Pete I am thinking of building something like that myself for my new mud area after I gut and redo my kitchen this summer.
Thank you! Thats where this sits is in the mud room of our house. She likes it so much that wet coats NEVER get hung on it.
Nice Man and where did you score CYPRESS !! that looks awesome man I have never worked with it but would love to . Currently I have a few green roofs going with concrete pavers but all the pergola's and fences are made from IPE, might score some of this as I have never worked with it either . Very very hard wood amazingly hard and apparently weather resistant. Have not done any research on it but will to see where it is from and some history about it. Might make something nice to add to the Teak furniture on the back porch. Nice work man with the Cypress, do not ever see it around here but will ask my brother in Florida if he comes across it.
Good stuff IronPony very well done man, its amazing what they use for pallets these days . I dont have access to pallets all the time like you but during the job I pretty much do as almost everything is delivered on pallets. Especially the heavy equipment boilers, cooling towers,ERU's ect... always hardwood . If I had the time I certainly could talk to the other Super's about what they have on their jobs but just do not have the time. Nice work man impressive !
