My conundrum with this is why we try to heat our houses with wood and then just pizz money into the pool for heat? I built a solar heater years ago that didn't work very well ~1F rise on 2 gal/min return hose laid on my garage roof. No way if I'm splitting wood and getting up at 2am to keep my house warm am I running a NG/propane heater to warm my pool up - just suck it up and cool off
Just a different mind set between you and me I guess....don't get me wrong, not saying yours is wrong. I don't cut and burn wood just to save money, I do it to satisfy the piro in me and I just plain enjoy it. My insert will not heat the whole house after we start getting into the single digits around here so I burn some NG.....now sure I could put a second stove in or put in an OWB but I'm happy with what I have. I also use electric to run the air in the summer so I can be comfortable, not much different. NG is not that costly and if I figure all the costs of cutting and all the labor I use to cut, split and stack I could probably just burn NG and get a part time job, would be money ahead, but would not enjoy it as much.
understood - yes I don't generate my own electricity for my AC needs...but I keep a close eye on the bills(mine are a 1/4$ of most folks I know locally) and we stay comfortable. I still have a wood pool heater in my mind with SS HTX already have the plumbing for it when the right old stove comes along and time permits I will add one
Ahhhh you need to get a leaf net! Best $40 I ever spent. Goes on in the summer and off before snow season. Never a leaf on the cover or in the pool. Been 2 seasons now and I'm loving it.
Leaf net would be impossible to remove. I filled my wheelbarrow ~10x with wet leaves. I use an old broken rake and insert it in the pool pole, use it as a scoop. Only takes a couple hours. Had one fat red-bellied water snake, having his fill of tadpoles.
I use my pump to relieve some water even throughout winter to relieve stress from the weight. The leaves all dry because they are kept above water level with net. Easy as pie
