Be a sad day when all the ash is gone around me! I love that stuff. EAB has pretty well gotten all of it where I’m at. Nice load woodsnwoods I need to work in slow motion more than I do. Probably more enjoyable!
Welcome to the forum Haftacut. Nice to see another Michigander on the forum. You surely are correct about the ash being about gone. We don't have much left on our place but happily we do have a few lives ones. They are small but alive. When this all started we knew we had a good stand of ash but really did not realize just how much we had. Now much of our woods looks stripped.
When we were driving up to your GTG last year I noticed many wooded areas along the highway that looked like a bomb went off there with all the dead Ash trees, some still standing, many not.
Yeah, there are so many areas like that it makes you sick. Such a shame that all that wood could and should have been put to good use.
I've thought about it many times just how much we've cut here plus what we've given away and it is amazing. Now if we multiply that by a few thousand, it gets scary.
We cut most of the ones infected on my in-laws about 10 years ago, and now have had access to the neighbors where they hadn’t been touched. Many have since fallen but a lot of them are still good even after laying on the forest floor. Ash seems to tolerate this better than some other varieties. Has this been your experience or were you able to get to them before they fell?
Ash indeed can take laying on the ground better than any tree I know. We've left some limb wood laying in water even. Once I had forgotten to come back (had a full load and couldn't get it all on). A year and a half later I found the wood I had forgotten. It was as if it had just been cut. However, now when the dead ones fall, some are quite bad and a few leaners I've just left. Several on the ground too that I won't get as it is just too far gone; not many btus in it. I see we have several more leaners again but physically I am not able to cut wood this year and won't be probably until I have a neck surgery. Even then, a 6 month recovery. Yuck...
