Still no power here. Went out Sunday at 11pm. We heard at the earliest we will get it back tomorrow evening. I am guessing we go a couple more days without power. Had a few pines snap, we were happy there was no damage to the house or garage. Tree stand was missed by a couple feet and one of our woodpiles took a direct hit but the top bounced off and only knocked over a few splits.
We have our power back. Why is it that I can hardly wait to take a shower after a power outage? We did run the geni for a few things. Need a larger one to really be effective. Would be nice to have the well run. Lots of limbs, broken and up rooted trees. Storm took the roof of from a lumber company and part of the roof of a local school gym. There was an Arbor in my back yard. I'll go hunting for it when I am up to it.
Power was out here for awhile one time , had a small geni , I rewired the pump motor for 110 to run it .
Nothing like you folks out east but last night while sitting in a ground blind the wind suddenly came up strong and lasted for about 10-15 minutes. The really funny part was that I had 2 does standing in front of the blind and the door of the blind (in the rear) blew right off. It didn't seem to bother the deer as much as it did me.
We may be in the same blackout 'patch'; I am fed from the transfer station just off of Rt. 116, across from the mill (Scituate or Coventry, not sure where the town lines are), and that one is down leaving my whole area dark. Fortunately, COX is apparently powered by the same station so they are dark too :-( No cable TV, internet or phone service, and my cell service works very intermittently- I think they are just overloaded. National Grid is showing is getting power back tomorrow (Wed.) at 8:00 AM. The good news is no damage to our property and the generator is keeping up with everything. Lots of branches down around here too but nothing worth burning that has not already been removed. Saw a section of sidewalk standing sideways in West Warwick yesterday, it was lifted and turned by the tree in the center of it that fell right across Rt. 117; nothing left of that but the saw- cut stump right at the street / sidewalk line. It was obnoxious. Between the wind and the tremendous rainfall, I have water in places that have not seen any water in 30 years at least. We have had more than a couple of actual hurricanes come through here that were far milder than that.... that..... whatever it was that passed through Sunday. Lasted for almost 24 hours too. Thanks for the kind wishes; we are fine here. No power but the generator is running so other than a lack of communication, we are certainly not suffering. My sympathies to those who have had property or worse, personal damage out of this though. Brian
Power back on at a little after noon today. 2 crews from NY got it done. That got my attention... really shows how big a deal this blow was across the state and how prepared our power companies were with back-up help they knew they'd need. Still around 300,000 out. Feeling mighty grateful round heeya.
Glad you're power's back up too Larry savemoney ... sounds like you had more tree damage around your place than we did too.
Power restored at my house ~4:00 PM, way ahead of schedule. Apparently the cable co. (COX) came back on-line at the same time (large transfer station that feeds my area was down so it probably fed the local COX hubs also), so all will be back to normal tonight. Good thing too 'cause the generator needs a little carburetor attention; when I first started it, it spewed gasoline all over the place. After removing the carb. fuel bowl and loosening the float, that problem was solved but it would not run without the choke being about 1/3 on- turning it all the way off would cause the engine to quit immediately. So now I can pull the carb. off and apart and get that working right again. Brian
Still dark here, had to trade a little freezer power long enough to run the well pump for showers, that felt good! I'm worried that my little 3800w generator will damage our new "mini splits" that we put in for the "shoulder seasons" so I fired up the radiant this afternoon. It's oil fired and the circ. pumps don't draw much. It's just not cold enough to fire up the wood boiler yet, and we didn't plan for a woodstove. I don't mind the power outage, it's sort of an adventure.
Glad for all concerned that the power outage happened now rather than in a cold snap. Much safer time of year for this to happen.
Trees down about everywhere you go today. Still a lot of roads blocked of, no access. A friend of mine near Freeport said it was a big mess where he lives. I saw lots of uprooted trees and several old maples tipped over or broken off. Some two feet wide. Lots of folks without power. May be Saturday before they go back on line. At least no one will freeze this time.
I agree FR... when we were at the old farm (and I was younger, LOL) I always loved it when we'd lose power. An adventure for sure...
Just got home from NJ. Power has been out in my neighborhood for 48 hours. It really was blowing hard during the storm! I haven't heard wind like that in a long time. I left before sunrise yesterday, and got home after dark tonight. Still not sure how much cleanup, but I'm sure it's a lot. I passed convoys of bucket trucks from Detroit, Virginia, and North Carolina on my way home. Probably 40 trucks in total.
Had a power outage last week was fun because it didn't last that long. It's like camping in the house, get the lanterns out and turned on, put a headlight on my head I'm all good man
this was a barn one of my acquaintances posted on FB. It was used to store equipment on a farm. Owner is an elderly farmer gentleman. He isn't able to put another one back up. Maybe insurance will cover it.
Good to hear most are getting the power restored. Looks like there will be plenty of firewood to be had out east now.
