Brother I just cleaned the chimney which means I let the stove go cold over night. I didn't even need to I got maybe 1/32 cup of soot ( not kidding ) it was clean as a whistle. What a waste of time now I have to start a new fire and get WARM it is cold....

I'll have to take a look at them. I keep hearing that the top loader is small and limiting. It's the one thing the VC stoves do really well. You can shove large splits through the top load.

We had a tl300 which had a huge top load but was a royal pita to keep going. This is not as big but I use it regularly to put decent size splits in the stove on the coals when we need a little more heat. The other thing I love about this stove is the insane burn times! I can fill the stove at 9pm and get up at 5am to a nice coal bed and the stove still cranking away. It's really impressive. Very well designed for us anyway.

And I thought the top load on the tl300 was small...

Ha not by a long shot I could put huge pieces through that door unless it's been changed.

I looked at the 300 hard when I was stove shopping the last time. The top load is what I was most interested in. When I finally saw one I wasn't impressed. Your large splits must be my mediums.

It's impressive to me that I don't really have to reload after 8hrs. On hardwood it's closer to 13hr burn times. So there bk lover.  I want the ashford 30.

My big splits are around 10" wide and the rest are there down. My stove likes big splits on the bottom and smaller on top.

It has been stated many times; steel stoves are cheap and will literally fall apart on you. The fire will burn through the stove unless it is no less than inch thick steel. And Hearthstone stoves can not get over 500. :drunk:
