You might not want an outside air kit in the basement if the supply pipe has to go up above the stove to find an inlet from outside as under certain conditions a reversal of air flow with that configuration the OAK can become a chimney. The NC30 is also a 2400 sq ft stove although it is usually spec'ed 1800-2400 sq ft. There's two versions of their newer Smartstove(s) one is 2000 sq ft and the other is 2400. I don't think they use the Madison name for whichever one came first and was originally given the Madison moniker at the time any more. To add to the confusion there's also a Smartstove pellet stove. Good luck.
The other totally different route I’m considering is an indoor gasifier tied into the forced hot water system you can see on the left. much more $$$
It use to say Virginia but I changed it to Kangaroo State after the Green Acres show and the changes after November.
You go he gasser route you will never look back. 2600 sf house 1500 sf garage all radiant heat. Most I’ve burnt was 8 cord and that was a bad winter and we didn’t have storage at the time. Right now I am at 3 cord roughly since November 8th and a few hours north of you. Yes is is expensive to install but ROI is huge.
800 is a good price; The Lowes here has it for $1,098.54. And if you can get it even cheaper. It might be worth it and you may have a stronger draft in your chimney if you put the liner in. See if they have one in stock so you can check the door seal etc. The stove heats very well, I keep the house a toasty 79 to 81 F degrees. Me, I hate the smoke issue I have but I have been told that any stove with a large door is going to spill smoke. I don't like the cheap glass retainers; they should have made better ones and replaced the ones on my stove but the guy was like "You will get the same ones." I don't feel like I should have to re-engineer a new stove. To me, if they would fix the flaws it would be a great stove. I haven't had the glass fall out again but it worries me for having overnight fires.
Yeah that's the Madison 02...my recommendation would be to keep shopping...do they still have any of the Summers heat NC30 available?
That would give you the most consistent heat...especially with storage! Do you have central air? Or more importantly, ductwork? If so, a forced air wood furnace would be an option that would be less money than a boiler. I looked at going to a boiler a few years back, but my place has always been setup for forced air heat/cooling...was much cheaper to stick with that than switching to hydronic...
The boss ain’t gonna be happy I’m going from a 600$ stove to a 10g+ gasser! I’m gonna have to be a good boy for a wile!
My biggest concern is the reliance on electricity for the gasser...with the set up I have now I can keep the pipes from freezing all winter without electricity. Not that the pipes would be useful if the power goes out for that long.
Recently we were at a fair and the folks from tarm had a booth set up. Wifey said don’t you want to go talk to them? I kept walking knowing when she heard about the money she would shut down.
I bought an Attack from New Horizon pre lambda for just over 5k. Price hasn’t gone up much, even the Lambda is reasonable. Been pleased with it, no issues after 5 years. Have maybe 1500 in the install. Added storage later for about another 2000. We do have a generator so I don’t worry much about the power but you can do an inverter with a big battery for backup, lots of people do that. Only need it to last until the fire goes out. There are cheaper ways than what I did, my loading unit was $700, there are much cheaper ones, also had run about 75 feet of baseboard for a heat dump that I could have gotten away without.
