Not quite sure yet. I have had the stove shop I deal with put an email in with the Jotul rep for this region. I explained my dilemma and forwarded some of the posts from here to let them see that there were others with the same problem.

For the cost of the new stove (the IS) and what I can get back for the Oslo once I have a remedy for it, I think I'll only be out about 1K. This had to be done, we were blowing through loads too quickly and not getting burns over 7-8 hrs.

I usually clean mine out, but because I live in the tropical north pole, I have a fire going at least once a month for 10 months of the year (maybe even in July, just to keep the mosquitoes warm). I figure the rust and faded paint give the old girl some rustic charm. I know it will certainly outlast me.

Would the creo act as a natural rust preventative? Maybe it holds moisture? Dunno.
I never cleaned the Ashley......there was some rust, but nothing to be concerned about and that was an almost 30 year old stove.

update: got a call today from the stove shop. Jotul has agreed that there is a problem with some of the Oslo's manufactured in 2007 ( at least 2007, there could be more). Although they would not be specific with my stove shop guy, they are requesting specifics on what is happening and they asked for copies of any threads from the forums with other Oslo owners and their problem in relation to what mine is doing.
I'm hesitant on the copying and forwarding part, especially with other folks information and no permission. I'll stick with me for now and explain what others have said about theirs.

I was going to take the Oslo out this summer and get the space ready for the IS. The thing is, if I do get a remedy from Jotul I want to run the stove to see if the repairs worked. This kinda puts me on the fence with making a decision. what to do , what to do....

    Suggestions welcomed :)
