Sometimes I’m picky and sometimes I just want more inventory.

I’m betting it will still make nicer splits than the nasty Silver Maple I finished splitting Tuesday. That is going on my do not take list.

Huh...it would be the opposite for me, cherry is always twisty/stringy and full of ants, SM usually makes some nice firewood for me...usually, not always though.

I am now convinced that ants prefer maple of any species. The Carolina Wrens have been feasting on eggs. Big or small Cherry has produced better splits than the crap Silver I have. If my trash pile wasn’t already full I would have tossed it in.

Looked at some big silver maple yesterday. Random tree service lengths and too big. Not for me.
Ive had it twisty and I've had it nice and straight.

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen one that’s not a big yard tree. Red Maple has become the predominant landscape tree.

Most I see around here are yard plantings. I cant say I've seen one in the wild around here. One in four trees in CT are red maple's so common as dirt.
