Very true. There have been some pellets (usually a softie) that will fill the ash pan quicker until you stir the ash and all that fluff settles down quite a bit.
Dan, I've been burning a fair amount of the Vanderhoof Platinum Pellets this season too, and I am liking them a lot. Great heat, little ash, and my glass remain clean noticeably longer with these pellets than some others.
A very good point. And one that I share with people a lot.. One of my favorites, if people have not caught on to yet, is La Crete or North Country. In "my" application, the ash is very fluffy, light in color.. a silvery gray.. When you look at the volume, it can seem like a lot. But it is soooo light and fluffy, there is no volume. (again.. in my application). Other stuff can seem less in volume, but is dark, not as fluffy, and more dense/gritty. So I agree with you pointing out the "ashy" description, can be more involved than just looking at it. Crusty/carbon/clinker crap, is another thing... Dan
We have had a LOT of people say they like them a lot.. I've used maybe 20 bags so far and wiped the upper right hand corner of the glass one time.. it has a little cloud up there, but nothing serious at all. As you know, I just put the Harman in a little while ago... so the only thing shot through it thus far has been the Platinums... when those are gone, will go to La Crete, (because they are under the Platinums) So I will have a better idea on how those all work in the new stove.. Including the glass deal.. It will just be a while before I do... I have used a lot of brands in the Englander in the shop, but that is a different animal altogether.. Dan
Have you burned them before? Curious how you like them. I'd like to sneak some in my stash early next spring if possible. But depending on the wallet, Might have to settle for Platinums(silver bags) or North Countries. Unless a BBS price plummet happens and they have something worth spending on. But with GS's so abundant, Its not likely. Its about time I spent some at a pellet house anyways.
no.. never burned Lacretes before.. they are a sprucewood... slowly trying to get into using all softwoods maybe next year. all Doug firs would make me just giddy...
