Ok a couple things, this isn't at room temperature so that isn't accurate, the RH around here now is fluctuating between 70-100%. This is my meter the General, bought at lowes. IMG_1643.JPG

Simple and to the point. It gives me a reading of wood but it considers anything above 17% high on the mc scale. My recently split birch was around 45-48% to give reference though. Having been split since spring break first week of April when more rain fell than I damm well care to mention. Aside from that Ive taken various monitoring because wood in my stacks are hardly the same. They have not been split or cut at the same time but I have been a good judge of moisture by weight. This was a random piece in the log pile for this coming winter, Scot Pine if you're curious. Now I split this and got a fresh inside reading. This is by no means to follow code but just a referential standpoint as wood fresh out of the stack. I also believe that this wood is still too wet. More than likely, this stack may be moved one more time this summer. The stack is a bit too crowded but it had been a dry summer last year and I had cut and stacked various types and burned a few in my firepit and it burns remarkably hot. Not to mention I have quite a bit of other wood that might catch the ire of some but its moisture content is low. With a good mix of the two Im doing ok. By next year I should be better with what I have ready and maintain that for that coming winter. For now Im going to continue to study my winter wood and keep tabs on it. You can never stare at them too much to wonder what it will be like to warm your house and which lucky log will be next.

That's the meter that has the resistor in the cap to calibrate it.
15% will burn a little better but 18% will burn just fine as will 20%

Yes it does, I tested it out the first reading I made so it was all ready to go. Now I just wish I knew a deviance level, % measured to an actual measurement. How far could I expect it to be off.

I have a Condar probe on the pipe, and a magnetic on the top. I am happy with both.

Seems like this is the norm. I just thought it would be cool if I got the thermocouple for bigger warnings.

This magnet mount is in the middle of the stove top

I opted for the 4 inch probe for inside the pipe even though I have single wall, it's mounted in the back of the stove pipe 15 inches from the top of the stove, 18 inches above the stove top is suggested normal, in my case there is a pipe joint there so I did not put it at 18 inches.

I was thinking the exact same set up myself.
Easy install and then setting up the computers is probably going to be my biggest issue. Haha fine print is hard to "read"
