Trying something different.... been building up a lot of coals the last few days... so instead of putting the big blocks on the side... I put the big block in front of the dog house.... see how that response...

Beech and honey locust. stuffed. Ugg flash didn't go off. Here's the pic before, I stuffed a 3" diameter beech log in the upper left. That did it.
It's tougher to do if you have a heavy load of hot coals. Which, coincidentally is when we load our stoves so full to combat the bitter cold. I have to wear my grilling gloves to load on a hot bed of coals, whereas if it's not so cold out, you can let the stove burn the coals down longer and it's not so hot.
I brought in some bigger splits today so couldn't do all NS. Mostly red alder with paper birch and bigleaf maple.
