Update.... just attached it. I kinda did a hybrid of the attachment system... didn't like putting a holes in my new roof. With my gas chimney still in good shape, I attached it to. Strapped it as tight and as low as I could to the chimney. Shouldn't need a whole lot of support, just a bit more stability. Thanks all the ideas...
I'm still debating putting a support on mine now that I put another section on, like you, new roof last December, not really wanting to put holes in it but I don't want my chimney falling over tearing things up either. 5 foot 3 in to the top of the pipe from the roof not including the cap.
Thats probably how much I had prior to this extension, with one exemption, my stove pipe basically touches the gutter off the second deck. How stable does it it feel like? How much stablilization contact points do you have below?
Question: With this extension, how much more draft would I expect to get? Basically going from 15' to 18'.
That's what I'm hoping for. 15' is like the minimal for my stove, plus I've got two 45 bends just above stove top to clear rafters and the roof line. So I was actually less than the minimal considering that factor. Just hoping that I have less draft problems than last year in the cool air. My NC13 didn't have the problem since I ran it hot most of the time. But the NC30 I have to hold back at time and create smaller fires...
We put an extension on ours and it did make some difference but really not a lot. Surprising thing is that one difference it did make was when lighting a cold stove in the fall, we sometimes have to jump start the draft whereas we never had to do that before.
It seems solid to me , they say if it's 6ft you should put a support on. I think mine made a some difference but I only fired it up once , have to wait n see. How much did you add to yours ?
That's good sounds like it was worth the trouble. Mine is definitely drafting better,, not like night and day but just about what I expected I only added 18 in and it was already doing pretty good job, my pipe is straight up. It was worth 90 bucks
