I'm looking at a different stove right now and it is a matte black and in need of a re-paint. Our Jotul has an enameled finish which has been solid and really care-free. Our last three stoves were fortunately enameled. I've been looking at the Stove Brite high temp products. Is anyone using this product and how many years are you getting out of it? Second question: Is it a gloss finish or more of a semi-gloss? I appreciate any input.
All of the StoveBright paint that I have used is more of a flat or matte...Rustoleum makes a satin black that I used...looked good but I dunno how it held up because it was on a stove that I was selling. Rust-Oleum Specialty 12 oz. High Heat Satin Bar-B-Que Black Spray Paint-7778830 - The Home Depot I actually had trouble with the StoveBright paint lifting after a few weeks, and I had prepped it just the way the dealer told me to.
Whichever high temp paint you choose, it will say if it’s flat, satin, gloss, and if it’s metallic or not. Oddly, it seems very common for people to spray little squirts of spray paint on the shelves to test the color at my local big box stores! I like rustoleum products and have had good luck with stovebrite too.
I used Rutland stove paint on my Englander. Only had a couple fires since repaint but looking good so far! Sent from my SM-S727VL using Tapatalk
Sometimes I “shine” mine with a bit of veggie oil on the premise that it is like a cast iron pan.. but i’d hate to be responsible if it caught fire or clouded over time. I usually only hit up the ash tray just outside the door which usually gets ashed over again within a matter of minutes.
I have a tube of wiliams stove black that is supposedly just carbon and graphite with no waxes to smoke or burn off. There's no rust on the stove though, just some staining from water boiling over and it covers those up fairly well after some cleaning attempt without paint stink. Paint stink really isn't anything to quibble about though either. I haven't had to try to hide rust with it though.
Enamel finish spoiled me. Next stove will handle cooking duties in the winter, so there will be some spills.
