We’re getting close on a floor plan finally. We are fairly sure the main floor wood stove will be a corner install. The basement I think will get an Englander Blue Ridge or whatever box is on sale when we are buying. Something big. I can have them turn a corner of the master closet into the chimney structure for that wood stove to get to the roof.

Main floor still not sure. I’ve been looking at the Drolet Bistro again. Trying to decide on value vs novelty but we do use our oven 5-6 nights a week for one pan of vegetables.

In the mean time I’ve been hoarding firewood! 36 cages full, 4-5 cages more split and stacked, hauled home 2 loads of fresh beech last week to process. Man that stuff is heavy!

That’s good! I’ve never processed any before now or burned any but this sure seems wet, heavy, and hard to split. Usually those add up to a lot of heat when it dries. I might even have to get the log splitter out for this tree!

I love maple. Sounds like I’ll like beech as well. To be fair the only wood I haven’t liked is wet wood.

MeanJoe something I would do and what I did to our current house is apply Bora Care with Mold Care to framing and sheeting.

I love burning beech. I'm just about wrapped up with my 2026 supply. The unfortunate nature of what has happened to the ash means I will be burning it almost exclusively the next few years. I have a near endless supply of quite large forest grown trees that are coming down every year. They're rotting at the stump and just falling over full length.

I've been burning probably 75% ash for quite a while now...many times it just goes straight into the rotation for the next winter..meanwhile the rest of my inventory just waits for its turn since the ash cut in line...but ash worth fooling with is getting to be less and less, so it'll be back to normal rotation soon...

I’m not sure if there are many ash trees in my area. Mainly oaks and pines, with the occasional cherry, elm, sassafras, or whatever else sprinkled in. Mostly oak. A loooottttt of oak.

Spoke too soon...got paid to do some "creek logging" today...was very surprised to find many solid ash trees still!

Oops. I put the backhoe on my Bobcat again for the spring and found out how much heavier it is again…
